In no way am I throwing a wet blanket on a GREAT GAME!!!! buuuuuut...PLEEEEEAAAASE don't get stuck on this gameplan. Les was fired up after the game. He loves these slugfests, and rightly so. But, I have a fear that the old conservative playcalling may be generalized. Just a slight nervousness. Having said that. Excellent game for the D today. Total reliance on the D after one great game may cause pain.
I personally do not think this will happen. Florida game planned for our pass attack apparently, and we gave them the run big time in the chops.
Florida has a great defensive backfield. Les played it safe running the ball. We had the backs that could stuff it down their throat and they did pretty good. Zach had an off game but so did ODB and Landry. Floridas corners played great against them. 1interception and that game could've gone the other way. The way I see it now. Our offense and defense has been tested and passed. If we continue playing like this. We are heading to Atlanta. I've been saying we beat Bama this year 38-24. I'm thinking that may be 41-21 LSU now.
Agreed. The game yesterday needed this type of game plan. I could see some sort of ball control plan for the A&M game to keep Manziel off the field; however, I also think we can have great success airing it out against them.
Landry was not at full speed, the staff wanted to challenge the OL to manhandle a good Fla DL. To get out with a win, shorten the game and few injuries. A min amount of mistakes/ penalties. This was a very well played game. The D looked better, problems are getting fix, still a work in progress, but getting there.
Good perspective. Thanks. I personally thought they should have been more balanced, pass to run ratio, but what you say does seem like good rationale for overall objectives and considerations.
Not one of Metts better games this year, Cam could see this, with people dropping in the stands, didn't want players doing the same on the field. On a day like yesterday and conditions, I'll take that win.
I agree the game plan for yesterday was correct. Just a little worried that Les will install it in a more general way. The future schedule dictates something different than Lesball. Not being a pessimist...I would just hate for the return of conservatism to destroy what Cam has built.
The D looked a ton better and I hope you are right with things getting fixed. I LOVED yesterday's game and hope we see more from the D.
The game plan yesterday was fabulous, however it didn't start out with planning to be quite so conservative. Mett was off a little bit, the receivers were off a little bit, our oline was opening holes and the rb's were doing their job. Cam and Les did theirs! I loved it even though we left some points off the scoreboard. I think it just shows that we can adapt and be successful no matter what the situation calls for. Next week and vs aTm I think we see a great blend of run/pass with an emphasis on ball security & control. I'm already excited for Saturday to roll around.
