Watergate overshadows Nixon's presidency, but he had quite a few accomplishments. He laid the groundwork for ending the Cold War by establishing relations with China, and getting SALT I and the anti-ABM treaties passed with the Soviets. He also got us out of Viet Nam and ended the draft. Libs should love him for pushing for desegregation, and also launching the Environmental Protection Agency and OSHA
no doubt he got some good things done but when you have to resign because you are about to be impeached, no matter how many good things you've done, you got to the bottom of the list imo.
George W. Bush was a fool who surrounded himself with fools. Not only was he a bad President he was a bad Governor of Texas. How an entitled, incompetent fool can be likable is something I can't quite get my head around.
everyone who loves freedom should love desegregation and, for that matter, any other law which expands rights for individuals.
Nixon's presidency is tragic. He was a brilliant politician, and his presidency had such potential to be historically great. If he were an LSU running back he would be Cecil Collins.
Nixon was smart and capable, but untrustworthy and a lifelong paranoid. He always thought someone was out to get him and it made him fear his enemies, both real and imagined. It led him to foolish endeavors.
I have no problem whatsoever with desegregation. Just pointing out that it tends to be more of a liberal than conservative issue.
And by the way, I was about 7 years old when that was happening; not exactly a hot button issue for me at the time. But since the purpose of my post was to point out positive contributions by President Nixon, it stands to reason that if I listed desegregation, I must think its a good thing.
