or listen to WNSP in Mobile? There is (was) a guy who had a sports talk show on the radio named Neal McCready. He also writes for the newspaper. Apparently, he was excellent, impartial, and said it like it was. Well, he just got fired from his talk show because he wasn't pro-University of Alabama enough. Here is the text of an e-mail he sent to past guests.

Ladies and Gentlemen: I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have given freely of your time without compensation and been a guest on my radio show in Mobile over the past 5 1/2 years. WNSP's programming director, Tim Camp, informed me yesterday afternoon -- via cell phone -- after my on-air shift that my services would no longer be needed and that it was time to part ways. While the ownership of the station has not spoken to me about the situation, I was told that I wasn't pro-Alabama enough. I can't say it's a complete surprise, as I knew some Alabama boosters down here who were advertisers on the station were applying pressure to the Johnson family, who are huge Alabama fans and boosters in their own right. It was, however, a bit of a shock and I regret the fact that I didn't get the opportunity to say goodbye to listeners who have been with me since the show's inception in March 2002. It would be easy to be very bitter and ask all of you not to give your time to the people at WNSP in the future, but that would be petty on my part and I'm going to try to be the bigger person here. Hopefully, another opportunity in this market or another will come my way and I can call on you all again. Regardless, thanks to all of you who have taken time out of your busy jobs to spend some time on my program. It has always been very appreciated. If I can ever return the favor, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again, Happy Holidays and take care. Neal McCready

Seeing as how I used to live in Mobile, I listened to McCready every afternoon. I liked the guy... he is a guy who calls it like he sees it. He's an Ole Miss grad and gave praise when it was due and criticized accordingly. I really don't understand why he was fired. The point of a radio show is very similar to a journalist.... create interest and get viewers. Sometimes its the negative stuff that pulls all the attention. Some Bammers just can't handle hearing the truth and by firing McCready it also shows that $$ talks.

I've never heard the guy before, so it's tough for me to say. BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of these guys that attempts to appear impartial by dogging the home town team every chance he gets.

I'm sure lots of LSU fans would like to see Guilbeau fired.

Exactly. He is a nice guy but is the worst radio personality. It has nothing to do with a bias, but anyone from Mobile will tell you that was the worst sports show in America, and I can listen to everything, except for that. He shouldn't have been the only one fired...

They already did. Guilbeau once wrote for the The Advocate and was let go for continual dogging of LSU. That's why he now covers the Tigers for 3 small papers in west Louisiana.
