It is apparent our RPI is killing us. With the entire SEC sucking the way they do it is no wonder why. As stated earlier the SEC is getting no respect, but the again what have we done to earn it. Noone in the SEC is even playing any top tier teams to prove we deserve respect. We at least took on a very good Xavier team and could have beaten them.

We just need to keep beating everyone, that way our record will speak for us. This is a good squad that believes they can beat everyone. Confidence will take them far this season.

its playing numerous teams way at the bottom thats the killer, and its one of my big gripes with the rpi. a team that would play only teams with rpis between 100-200 can have the same rpi as a team that plays half its games against top 100 rpi teams and half against 200-300 rpi teams. for all intents and purposes, a top team playing a rpi 213 team and 313 team is equal. the top team will win 99.9% of the time.

the other big gripe is that teams get too much credit for losing to good teams.

LSU should cut out most/all of the rpi 250+ teams. Alcorn St, Grambling and NWSt are killing us.

i think the Xavier loss wont help as much as you think. unless they saw the game (and remember it), it is just a 10 pt home loss. for all they know it couldve been 20 pts plus til the last 4 min when X put their bench in.

I think the best hope for LSU is a #6 or #7 seed. It'll be hard to get higher than that based on how horrible our SOS is.

ESPN's "Bracketology" NCAA Tournament seedings for Feb. 9th are out:

They currently have LSU as a #9 seed.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

You can see an explanation of the methology by clicking on the "2008-2009 FAQ" tab on the top right, or by clicking here.

    For the SEC, they have:

    WEST
    #9 LSU (19-4)
    NR Miss State (16-7)
    NR Auburn (14-9)
    NR Ole Miss (13-10)
    NR Alabama (13-10)
    NR Arkansas (13-8)

    EAST
    #6 Florida (19-4)
    #6 Tennessee (14-8)
    #10 South Carolina (17-5)
    #11 Kentucky (16-7)
    NR Vanderbilt (15-8)
    NR Georgia (9-14)

The reason Tennessee is so high is because their SOS is #2 in the NCAA and their RPI is #21 in the NCAA.

Compare to the rest of the SEC:

    SOS
    #2 Tenn
    #18 Ole Miss
    #81 Miss State
    #82 South Carolina
    #84 Auburn
    #87 Alabama
    #91 Kentucky
    #98 Georgia
    #100 Florida
    #101 Arkansas
    #104 Vanderbilt
    #117 LSU

    RPI
    #21 Tenn
    #30 Florida
    #43 South Carolina
    #52 LSU
    #63 Ole Miss
    #74 Kentucky
    #79 Miss State
    #93 Vanderbilt
    #99 Arkansas
    #102 Auburn
    #137 Alabama
    #214 Georgia

Why should this have any relevance in tournament seeding if you can't actually win very many of those games? It's amazing to me that a team that hasn't beaten a Top 25 team since mid-December garners more respect (3 spots more, apparently) come tournament time than another team on top of the same conference in February. IMO if you're going to be rewarded at the dance for a tough schedule with a high seed you need some W's against those tough teams. This isn't an argument for LSU getting a higher seed, but why Tennessee really doesn't deserve a higher seed than LSU, all other things being equal for the rest of the season.

    It is simple math.

    19 - 4 - (RPI 52) + 137 votes = 26 ranking score. What you can't see that? lol

Since last week's polls, we moved up from #30 to #26 in the AP Poll, and we moved up from #33 to #27 in the Coaches Poll. This is the highest we have been ranked all season.

There are 343 teams in Div 1 basketball, while there are only 120 teams in Div 1 football. Being ranked in the Top 25 of basketball is like being ranked in the Top 10 of football. Also, remember that 64 teams go to the NCAA tournament.

The current #26/#27 ranking of our basketball team out of 343 teams is the equivalent to a #9 ranking in football out of 120 teams. That is pretty awesome, right? Nothing to cry about, especially since we haven't beaten a single team that is currently ranked in the Top 25.

Also, the SEC isn't that great in basketball this year. As a conference, the SEC ranks #6 in basketball, not #1 like we do in football.
