Then please pay attention. If you are one that is so negative about everything LSU has done in this early season please read and BACK UP YOUR statements with proof! Not simply negative replies such as: "We're not winning 7 games" or "We've got too much talent". For starters, people here view JJ in the wrong light. They were so aggitated at the struggles of J.Lee and Hatch last season that all they wanted was to see JJ in a game. He got in a game and it's not what he did that impressed you all, it's what he DIDN'T DO: He didn't turn the ball over via INT. But in NONE of JJ's 5 games has he EVER eclipsed the 200 yard passing mark. His 173 yard, 3 TD performance against Washington was statistically his BEST GAME. Don't you think 173 yards as your BEST game isn't typically what should make people name him the next Drew Brees??? He's not even the next Matt FLynn yet! Until his accuracy improves and starts connecting on those long pass plays, the defense will continue to stack 8 men in the box to shut down the running game. But quit complaining about him. He's only made 5 STARTS. FIVE! Name me a program that had a 19 year old with 5 starts under his belt to win a national title???? "Oh but we have too much talent". Bull crap! It STILL runs through the QB. We are NOT rebuilding. We're reloading. If we lose 4 games this season SO WHAT! LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE: We're brining along a VERY YOUNG group of QB's. Their struggles and growing pains puts added pressure on a defense already concerning themselves with learning a new defensive system. It's NOT like JJ is a (RS) Junior or Senior with years of experience under his belt. Now I'm NOT lobbying for a QB change but consider this: J.Lee had 7 games where he threw for more yards in a game than what JJ has done and Lee had 4 games over 200 yards with a high of 261 (against Miss St). But Lee just threw 7 pick-sixes and that was ultimately his downfall. When you're breaking in an OLine that is without Herman Johnson and you are dealing with 2 new, and just as inexperienced as JJ, you're going to struggle early on. Personally, if playing/dealing with a stable of young but extremely talented QB's (JJ, J.Lee and Shep) and taking some lumps and growing pains ultimately gives us seasoned veteran QB's for the next 2-4 years then that's what we have to do. This "I don't think he's an SEC QB" or "He's not capable of leading us to a title" is balloney. You are ALL just too damn spoiled with the Matt Mauck's, Matt Flynn's and Rohan Davey's that you simply forgot just how long it took ALL of them to take center stage as a starting QB and be the prolific player that they turned out to be. When JJ starts hitting on some long balls and shows a defense that he can successfully stretch the field, it'll take pressure off the OLine and open up the running game. It'll open up OUR defense too! We dont' have to play "close to the vest" if we have multiple possession leads. People don't realize that every blitz you call has the potential to do 2 things: MAKE a big play (sack, turnover, etc.) OR GIVE UP A BIG PLAY because you're taking every blitzing player out of coverage. You can be more aggressive with blitzing once you have a quick-strike offense. But asking a 19-year old with only 5 games of experience to be the quick-strike offensive QB that 5th-year Sr's Flynn and Davey were is ridiculous!!!! And every game that we don't hit a big play or don't attempt a big play is NOT an indication that Crowton is vanilla or Miles is being too "Big Ten" or JJ can't do it. Sometimes defenses will stay deep to prevent you from getting that big play, choosing to force you to beat them with the short game. Jefferson CAN play that. If you want to stack the box against us and play 2-deep and force us to use the >15 yard routes? Fine. We've seen that 3-straight weeks to open the season. And guess what? It's NOT eyepopping on the stat sheets, but we took what the defenses gave us and came out on top each and every time. And we've avoided the INT bug that bit us all of last year. And yes, JJ dodged a MAJOR bullett last night in that department but he didn't give up 3 or 4 INT's. And you have to assume he'll be coached up and learned from it. You can't just automatically think that the coaches don't see/know more than what you see/know??? My money is on the coaching staff each and every time over malcontent and never satisfied LSU armchair coaches/drunks.
Oh yeah... and here's a tidbit: ESPN's Chris Fowler JUST recapped: "....Jordan Jefferson solid in LSU's win." Guess all the national media that watch college football for a living should come here and read what a bunch of coonasses think about their own QB?? :dis: ...LSU fans bashing their own when they actually get 'love' from a national media person??? How F-ing shocking...
Great post. JJ is obviously still very raw and has much maturing ahead of him. What waits for us on the other side of that is all that matters. I see the potential for an All-SEC and SEC Championship caliber QB. If that doesn't happen this year, so be it. Once it all clicks, he's gonna be fun to watch.
I'm glad you started this thread because I was going to if you didn't. I had a wonderful day yesterday. It began with me arriving at the TeamKatt tailgate and seeing a lot of my great new friends. One of them, Bayoubengal, had an extra ticket which he gave to me for free because one of his friends who the ticket was for didn't make it. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, drink, friendship and the game. We won 31-3 and didn't let USL score a TD to keep the streak intact since 1924 or so. After the game, we all took the elevator down from the upper deck and we met an LSU fan who said we're gonna lose 5 or 6 games this year....we're in trouble!!! well Bayoubengal said "I'm glad you took the elevator down and didn't jump" I told him "someone must be putting something in your Kool aid." My point is this...I just enjoyed the heck out of the game and the gameday experience, and I couldn't believe that this guy spent all the money and time and went away bummed out.. It probably is true that the offensive and defensive lines are not world championship caliber yet, or that JJ can't hit the long pass accurately (he holds the ball too long), but why should anyone pin their happiness on how 18-22 year old young men perform on the field? And what I really don't understand is how most of these grown adult fans can be Saints fans at the same time. Surely somewhere in their long history of futility we learned how to take things in stride. I guess these people feel like losers when we don't win in blowout fashion and they resent it. The players didn't play like champions so they take it personally and truly feel like losers personally and get mad at the players and the team. That's the basis for all these rants. "YOU made me a loser!" Don't get me wrong, if LSU would have been upset I'D have been real upset. :cuss:. But I would have returned home to my wife and family, went to bed, woke up, gone to mass, and life would have continued normally. but that's just me....
I've gotten to where I understand that some folks apparently just need to rant and vent themselves on Sunday after a game. A lot of them just get it out of their system that way and then move on. Nick's 24-hour rule is a good one. It's the ones who are still bitching and moaning on Wednesdays that get annoying and bring down the fanbase. Especially when we are wining.
Not being happy about winning like this against these teams does not make anyone not love the Tigers. It's kinda like being happy with your kids for getting D's when you know they could do better. Hell they are passing, but that doesnt make it good.
The team HAS a lot of talent and has yet to come together, PARTICULARLY the O-line and D-line. O-line seems to be able to provide better QB protection in yesterday's game, but not quite able to open up the running game better (although that could be due to the opponents stacking up the box). Just hope the D-link gets better penetration, and the blitz packages not as easily picked up. I think JJ is playing a bit too cautiously because of what happened last year; hope BOTH QB's learn not to try to do too much on their own, like what J. Lee did last year. In a way, I would also like to see J Lee play more this year to see if he has improved. It was a bit too much on his shoulders last year being thrown into the fire. I think JJ is still growing with a promising future. Just hope they don't have him run too much as he can get hurt. Same for Sheppard; just waiting for the coaches to suddenly let Sheppard make some passing plays when the time comes..............
Once we decide to start throwing the ball opposing defenses won't be able to stack the box, but of course that all depends on how successful we are at throwing the long ball. Maybe we haven't really had to yet, and maybe we won't throw much until we have to... who the hell knows. Miles speaks in code, Chavis isn't a talker and we've ran the same offense with a few variations for 3 weeks now, and while we've won... it's been more like sleep walking through games. At some point, with the atheletes and talent level we have, you'd think the light would come on and they'd start playing with some consistency on both sides of the ball.
I here you AtlantaBengal. I think there is way too much bashing going on, but ChosenOne makes a good point. THe disappointment some feel has to do with talent level, potential, and expectations. We know they can do even better than they are. If they win 31-3, and the o-line, d-line, and running game perform much better, subs are in from lat 3rd qtr on, then the contentment would be more satisfying. Overall, I am certainly happy we are 3-0, and think we will continue to improve, but I still would prefer to see them performing better against inferior talent like ULL. Agree with Red about the mid-week bashing. If you have some discontentment to voice, do it, get it over with, and move on to more positive thoughts. I am not a Crowton fan, but I will still pull for the offense to do the best they can, and will cheer every touchdown, and stay positive that he will call better games than I personally feel he does. I certainly am not above changing my opinion of someone if they improve.
Uh...please forget about me using the words futility and Saints in the same sentence :hihi:. wow, the Eagles don't know what just hit them !!opcorn:.
