Well I only predicted Debose. I said no on Campbell. Hell, you felt good about Dye going into tonight.
This just leaves room for Reed and Seastrunk next year. It's not like we don't already have a very talented groupd of WRs already. We will be fine!
Why do we not consider the committed players who played in the game as people we "got"? LSU merely lost 2-3 coin flips... Look at Loston, Shepard, etc.... they won those
Army game: Vebals - Davenport, Probables - Mingo, Randle UA game: Verbals - Shep, Loston, Downs, Lowe Possibles - Myles Someone made need to add/correct list above. Not sure about Garrett, Faulk, Ford, or other probables. Point is we had multiple verbals and possibles in both games. Just had one actually give a verbal. That is not diappointing at all. Only true disappointment was Debose, IMO.
Losing Dubose was a disappointment but let's move on. For one thing, the title of the thread is not quite correct. We picked up Loston during the pre-game activities. Also, we still are very much in the hunt for Randle. In addition if Benson gets cleared by the clearinghouse and Ford get upgraded to 5 star status, there is no way we relinquish our #1 spot. In addition, we are looking good to pick up Mingo and Montgomery. Dubose or no Dubose, this is going to be one of our best recruiting classes ever. Geaux Tigers.
You guys are forgetting that Josh Downs had a great game last night as well in a losing effort. I heard his name mentioned many many times last night. ESPN also has him projected to move up because he had a monster week then performed well in the game. Comparing RR and Debose is an unfair assessment. Debose will be Harvin-like in Florida, meaning he will touch the ball more, and in many different ways than RR will wherever he ends up. RR will spend much of his time split out wide. RR will concentrate on running great routes and making the catch to make plays. Debose will concentrate on getting the ball in space to create plays. Two totally different players. Debose will probably score more and maybe even have more yards, but that's expected. When it comes down to it, 3-4 years from now RR will still be the better pro prospect while Debose will be a glorified return man since CUM won't spend much time teaching him to be a receiver.
Like most of you, I don't mind losing out on a prospect's commitment as much as the (seemingly deliberate) counter intelligence being put out. I'm not talking about the "what's my line" type maneuvers with the hats. That I can understand it's just the kids having fun; there's no malice involved.I actually find it entertaining. What I am talking about is deliberate deception. Like in the Campbell case... we were out of it and resigned to that fact for quite a while. Then out of left field at the last minute we're back in it based on what Campbell is telling an LSU commit and his interviews telling the press he and Davenport are going to tear it up together on the field. Our recruiting gurus were skeptical on this matter and I think that proves their good insight. We never really were in it with him in the first place. Then you have Debose with the term paper thing and apparently statements that misled Russell Shepard and others. I hate to come off as a skeptic but I think it's more than genuine indecision on Deboses part especially with CUM being part of the scene. I could be wrong. I could be jumping to conclusions here. In my opinion, Some of these recruits are using their temporary fame to boost their reputations as major "Playas". I only began following LSU recruiting in the last two years but I'm sure this is a common theme on other college boards. My congratulations to Ruben Randle for not indulging personally in this type of behavior. Good luck wherever you choose to enroll.
Major "Playas", what exactly does that mean? I understand disdain for people like Campbell who was just jerking us. But could you give me a definition of that phrase?
