I know you may lose all respect for me by me saying this, but I really, truly don't think Carr is that bad. He gets hit literally in excess of 200 times a year. It is lucky he is still alive at this point.
I think it came down to Norv Turner and the Gatorade cooler. The cooler wanted too much money. Chargers management has a message for its fans. That message is, "f*** you."
and once they do real well this year, the message will be: "THIS IS WHY WE GET PAID THE BIG BUCKS." I mean, yeah, Turner has been bad, but the only time he had a team capable of winning, he won a playoff game. It is hard to judge a coach based on his performances in Washington and Oakland. Case and point: Is Joe Gibbs all of a sudden NOT a good coach anymore? Because he is sure building a nice resume in Washington these days...
The redskins were loaded when he was there. Before at least one season, they were a preseason favorite of many to win it all. They bombed and it wasn't because of the talent imo.
No, I respect you all the same. It's just plainly evident that you haven't watched the Texans (and no, I don't blame you.) The numbers are HIGHLY misleading. The pass protection wasn't horrid this year, and more and more sacks are his fault, not the o-line. Manning doesn't get sacked all that much, and it's only partly due to his line. The most telling thing about Carr is how they reduced the playbook as the season progressed. Further, they waited until the end of the year to even consider running out of the shotgun because "somebody" had difficulty with it. Carr may have a productive career elsewhere, but he has lost any ability to lead this particular team.
Oh absolutely a lot of coverage sacks. Carr added those to his repertoire in '05, and perfected them last year. I'm sure it's a result of getting hammered his first two years, but that's not a complete explanation. Carr actually played well in '04, but has regressed significantly since. His problem is holding onto the ball, and at the first inkling of pressure, he just tucks the ball and hunkers down for the sack and/or inevitable fumble (see bad o-line for his first few seasons.) He also makes notoriously bad downfield reads, and goes to his checkdown immediately. He simply doesn't have the ability to read safeties anymore. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of a running game, aided by Domanick Musharaff's mysterious knee injury. I'm telling you...it's just a perfect storm of factors. But ultimately, the buck stops with Carr. He SHOULD have been playing for his job the last two years but wasn't. Accordingly, some folks think he should have one more chance, when in reality, this past year was his chance. Kubiak's system is perfect for a guy with Carr's tools. Carr has great mobility and arm strength. He just can't put it all together right now. Maybe one day he will, but I seriously doubt that will be in Houston. END Charger thread hijacking :hihi:
The easiest prediction I could ever make was that Norv Turner would ruin this team. Firing a failure (Marty) = good. Hiring an even bigger failure = bad.
