Mainieri before the game: "We have a lot of respect for the Northwestern State program, and it's important that we approach this game in the right way," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. "They're accustomed to facing very good competition; in fact, they've beaten Tulane and they've played Texas A&M, TCU and Oklahoma, so we're expecting to see a tough team that will be ready to play here tomorrow." Northwestern St. lost 1-2 @ Texas A&M (a very good ball club that went toe to toe with #8/11/10/12/13 Cal State-Fullerton @ Fullerton) Northwestern St. lost 0-1 @ Oklahoma (currently ranked #10/12/14/17/18) Mainieri after the game: “This was a very well-played ball game, and it was a hard-earned victory for us,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri . “Northwestern State played and coached an outstanding game, and I thought our players responded well to their intensity. Both teams made great plays and big pitches throughout the night, and I’m glad we were able to finally earn the win.”
LSU has now won 25 mid-week games in a row, dating back to almost 2 years ago when we lost 2-5 to Northwestern St on Tues April 12, 2011 in Alex Box Stadium That is amazing
It might not be amazing for some teams...but considering the number of talented teams in the area (UNO, ULL, ULM, Tulane, NWLA, USM, Southern, etc.)...it's pretty darn impressive. Playing quality programs outside the conference has always helped prepare the Tigers for a post-season run. The occasional loss is worth the benefits. Bring on the Auburn pussycats!
