South Korea’s Leader Bluntly Warns U.S. Against Striking North https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/15/world/asia/south-korea-moon-jae-in-trump.html SEOUL, South Korea — With his public alarmed by President Trump’s recent threats to North Korea, President Moon Jae-in of South Korea issued an unusually blunt rebuke to the United States on Tuesday, warning that any unilateral military action against the North over its nuclear weapons program would be intolerable..... “No one should be allowed to decide on a military action on the Korean Peninsula without South Korean agreement,” Mr. Moon said in a nationally televised speech..... ..... Mr. Moon’s pushback was the latest indication that Mr. Trump’s unorthodox approach to foreign policy, coupled with Pyongyang’s rapid progress toward its goal of nuclear missiles that can reach the mainland United States, was putting new strain on the longstanding alliance. And it underscored how Mr. Trump’s volatile language is sowing division with an ally whose help would be vital to the success of any American military campaign on the divided peninsula. ..... Many South Koreans have seethed in recent days over what they considered irresponsible statements from American leaders about the possibility of war, particularly since comments by Senator Lindsey Graham were widely reported here,.. “If thousands die, they’re going to die over there — they’re not going to die here,”
No one has more to lose than SK and the people who live there. War would destroy what they have been working tooth and nail to build. SK was in ruins after the war ended 1952. What they have built is remarkable. On top of that millions have relatives in the north who are but slaves to Kim et al. There is a tremendous desire for peaceful reunification under a democratic capitalistic system. War would make their efforts and desires worthless and wasted. They do pay for their defense and are armed top fight but want their forces to be successfully used as a deterrent not destructive. While some of Trump's comments seem to have goaded the Chinese to put pressure on the north to back off, too much can put Kim in a corner where he can only lash out to the world's detriment. The SK comments aren't from fear but understanding.
Sk does and should have the veto over war with the north. That said if the little nut job fires a missile over Japan. He crossed a line that Sk must see.
China to shut down North Korean companies http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41431057 China has told North Korean companies operating in its territory to close down as it implements United Nations sanctions against the reclusive state. The companies will be shut by early January. Joint Chinese and North Korean ventures will also be forced to close. China, Pyongyang's only major ally, has already banned textile trade and limited oil exports. The move is part of an international response to North Korea's sixth and most powerful nuclear test. The UN Security Council, of which China is a member, voted unanimously for fresh sanctions on 11 September. good news I guess, though with the runt's missile development intensifying,.. I don't think there's time to let economic sanctions work. Maybe the little derp will get hit by lightning.
