You've got to be joking right? One minute this kid is going to be throwing 80 yard perfect spiral TD passes to himself and now he's going to will the team to a national championship on his attitude alone. Some of you guys need to cut back on your daily intake of hallucinogenics, it's going to fry your brain.

Don't be ridiculous, even superman could barely throw 80 yard td passes to himself. Shep's will only be about 75 yards but he'll make great catches on them.

Seems to me you are taking the extremes out of what everyone is saying because I have not heard one thing about being an All American type of player from the start. I am hearing fans say he will come in and provide a spark with his diversity of potential positions and leadership traits. LSU needs leaders and that does not mean just one guy but many who can give this team a spark and RP will be one of them.

Not uncommon if you think about the Crabtree, Tebows, Harvin, McCoy, etc... of the college football world.

Really? By all accounts, JR was a model student, teammate, and seemed to do sort of ok at QB for LSU. I think he made it to the NFL despite being repeatedly bashed by LSU fans. But Shepard is already better?

It's also not difficult to defend against a player that only knows a couple of plays in a couple of formations. Unfortunately it gives rival coordinators our tendencies. Usually works much better when you don't know what's coming. Perhaps we should let him learn a little before we throw him to the wolves. How did that work out for Lee?

    Well said.

Or pass it around. We could use the same stuff.

Shepard is immensely talented and his stats do not tell the whole story. He really can make all the throws(I have seen him play in person 3 times), and generally makes good decisions. Beyond that, his running is uncanny. But it's high school. Next year the QB position should be competitive, but we will still have very young players in that position and will suffer when they make mistakes. If Tiger fans have realistic expectations, perhaps Shepard will exceed them, instead of falling short as everyone else this year seems to have done.

Well said and herein lies the pitfalls of the unreal expectations being hyped about Shep. Lets not set this guy up for failure in the fans eyes by proclaiming him the missing ingredient. Its highly unlikely one player, especially a true freshman, is going to provide that. Its similar to the unreal expectations placed on this years team back during the summer. Just go back and look at all the posts about what was expected. We didnt consider our QB situation or the loss of Pelini enough when evaluating our potential record this year. I think that has directly led to many of the meltdowns you see from posters because we had unrealistic expectations. Lets not place that same burden on a high school kid no matter how great he is.

The thing is Im pretty sure Shep can learn enough as a WR to be used without being predictable. Again the key is he could be a decoy. Its not like he has to come in the game and be used each time out. LSU is extremely predictable with its play calling this year as it is. We dont need that again next year. When Holliday or Hatch is in you know whats coming.

Shepard is incredibly talented, and I have no doubt that he will see the field next year.

Him getting here in the Spring will give him a jump on learning the intricaces of being a college QB. I don't think he'll take over the starting position, but I'm not ruling it out either...
