Initially, it was being reported that the hangup was because TT didn't want to play the game in Houston. I'm not sure where the truth about any of this lies but supposedly we'd offered a series with them coming to TS this year and us returning the next 4, I think it was, over there but they wouldn't go for it cause we wouldn't play in their stadium.
I say play home and homes. I think all of us would like to see different places. When we went to Va Tech, or Notre Dame. Those were great experiences. Yes we lost the game. But with perspective its just a football game. Having the chance to experience college football and their fans around the country is what makes it so great. Lets play some big schools in home and home. Except Texas A&M
It's a pay day for their city if they keep it in Lubbock. A boost for a lot of different areas of their football program as well. But, if they did baulk at the idea of playing in Houston they would be missing out on a payday as long as there were parties in Houston supporting the game as well. As example, some of the expenditures from Bama vs FSU and Bama vs Clemson were/are being covered by the committee's that work in those bowl games and also support other athletic events in the area. Payday for last years game vs FSU was over the 2 million mark. Not quite what a home game would have brought in, but a sizeable boost for playing what was basically an away game. Deceks mentioning the 50K attendance deal makes me wonder a bit...considering, there are teams (granted, within conference) that play in smaller stadiums and some about the same size. You would think ABC/ESPN would be all over the game as well... All of this goes to show scheduling OOC games isn't as simple as picking up the phone. With over 2 years involved in trying to get a PAC-10 home and home both parties moved on last year on our end...
LSU and Texas Tech at one point were looking at a home game at LSU this year, then five games at Reliant Stadium in Houston. East Texas is a major LSU recruiting area and LSU's biggest alumni group is in Houston, only a five-hour drive from BR.
TTU hasn't been losing money out of their Ath. Dept. but I still don't see the reason why they wouldn't jump all over those paydays. There has to be some part of the story that isn't being put out here...
tee-hee:rofl: And why lie about it?? If it is true and Leach didn't like the deal then say so....no harm in that...
it's obvious both TTU and LSU wanted different things in their series and we needed them more than they needed us. getting a quality opponent this close to the next season is a daunting task. you won't always have teams like oregon st willing to make a visit with nothing in return. that was the exception, not the norm. i wouldn't have gone after a 5 year series with TTU, instead why not do a home and home and a 1 yr stint in houston for a 3 game series. i don't really know what was thrown out there as options but this was a long shot anyway.
Tech keeps looking at games to be played at Jerry's place in Dallas. Moving 2 games out of town would be really tough. The $$'s would make sense, but the PR hit would be huge.
I think the thread should have been titled "Nobody Outside the SEC wants to play Us." Everybody in the SEC wants to play us to improve their chances at winning a National Championship, well, maybe not Vandy.
Not Houston..but we'll take Dallas? You are there, it's got to be a revenue split problem. Logic just says so...
