LSU 13-1 Bama 12-1 Head to head tied. You won the national championship but you don't own the claim to best team. In fact, LSU's record and quality of opponents would clearly give them the claim to best team. Just be thankful you got the shot you did. You got the breaks.
Far be it from me to ever suggest such a thing. Home field is LSU's advantage. AJ McCarron and the O-line is Alabama's.
LSU eyeing Josh Williford's possible return to bolster depth on the offensive line Randy Rosetta, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune 10/29/2012 7:14 AM Baton Rouge - Injuries began to affect the LSU-Alabama game way back in the second week of the season when starting left tackle Chris Faulk went down with a season-ending knee injury. The good news for the Tigers is that last week didn't bring any more bad news since it was a bye week. In fact, there may a smidgen of a silver lining for No. 5-ranked LSU (7-1, 3-1) as the biggest week of the 2012 season begins. Junior right guard Josh Williford is hopeful of returning to practice for the first time since he suffered a nasty concussion early in the second quarter of a 14-6 loss to Florida on Oct. 6. Should Williford return to action, the Tigers would get a 332-pound shot in the arm with depth up front. Williford could step back in as the starter at right guard and bump Trai Turner into a sixth-man role, or Williford could roam up and down the line and help keep starters fresh against what figures to the be the most physical test of the season. Besides Williford, there's an outside chance junior tailback Alfred Blue may give his damaged knee a test this week to see if he's ready for a return to action after missing the last five games. Blue is the most versatile of LSU's backs as a receiver and pass blocker and could reintroduce a wrinkle to a running game that has shifted toward freshman Jeremy Hill and junior Spencer Ware the last few weeks. Other than those two, the Tigers should be rested and ready to go. Safety Eric Reid said he was limited last week with a sternum injury, and he could be held out of contact again this week. "But there's no way I'd miss this game," he said with a smile. Likewise, center P.J. Lonergan (back), left tackle Josh Dworaczyk (calf), outside linebacker Luke Muncie (illness) and fullback J.C. Copeland are all ready for action against the Tide. All we need now is the Mad Hatter to show up for this one.
So we get the one non subjective edge. The true difference could be adversity as many have mentioned. Bama hasn't been tested yet. Ts could affect that if things go bad for mccarron at some point.
Could be. But Adversity is not a given because of home field advantage. Adversity is also a two-way street. With two teams with this kind of talent, it's not unusual that both teams will have to summon some inner fortitude. And before you confess LSU has been there and done that, keep in mind, it's only a lesson learned if you face such adversity and win. Otherwise it's back to class. But this expression, "haven't been tested, yet," is a general mindless term that media heads concocted when they just couldn't explain what they were looking at. Many have become notorious for failing to believe what they see. Perception, like other gifts, have very few owners.
Doublespeak is fun and all but teams being tested is far from a mindless term. You may not be able to quantify it but it clearly exists. I never said adversity is one sided but I implied tiger stadium is a large variable in this matchup. Or at least could be if the teams play their best. It's cool to think your side one-ups the home team in every facet; just dont come here with that passive aggressive nonsense in an attempt to dismiss LSU on their own board. It's unbecoming.
You've got to be kidding. A "revenge" game for them? LSU "stole" the SEC championship from them? That's comical. We've been through all of this before; we all know how "lucky" the gumps were to play for the MNC. And by "lucky" I mean the extent to which ESPN lobbied for it, and the extent to which the media pandered to St. Nick. They were practically falling all over themselves for a chance to suck Nick's ****. I hope our guys got wind of this idiotic comment. Let's see Big Sam or Keke knock McCarron into next week, not to mention whoever made the idiotic comment above.
Found the story again. Here's the quote: Even the Tide is manufacturing a little redemption storyline for Round 3. “LSU is the SEC championship team or whatever, and not us; we’re just the national championship team,” Alabama wide receiver Kevin Norwood said on Monday. “And that’s one of our goals, to be the SEC championship team. To me, I like to fulfill all my goals, and that’s one we didn’t, so it’s motivation for us.” http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/4276268-123/bcs-loss-left-scars
They did this, then when people were not interested in the rematch, the media has, this year, pandered to an SEC backlash, when THEY were the ones who engineered Bama getting the rematch in the first place.
