Per Dandy Don today.... "I spoke to someone yesterday who is very close to the LSU football program who told me that he has never seen an LSU team more excited about the upcoming season than this year's team. The team is sick and tired of seeing predictions that do not have them finishing in the top 20, some of which have them picked as low as fifth in the SEC West. I was also told by the same person that the three new coaches on offense are very happy with the young talent on this year's team. I know that many of you will not agree with me, but I believe the 2010 team is going to be very much improved. I do believe that head coach Les Miles is very happy with his coaching staff and feels very good about the 2010 team." :tigereye:
I get why there are question marks, we are very young and the schedule is pretty tough. But people seem to forget that LSU is elite, and that bothers me. SC, OU, etc. always get the benefit of the doubt, even going into a rebuilding year. I don't think we're necessarily rebuilding, but we are still developing many of our top contributers. The talent is skewed a bit to the underclasses for me to think we'll be title contenders just yet, but stuff like 5th in the SEC West is just laughable. We are LSU. We have the horses, they just gotta get some seasoning. God help the teams who have to play us at year's end. If we can survive the rough OOC games to start the year, and get a few breaks in the middle of the slate, we could be right there. And that's when we could really start rounding into shape. I don't mind the negative press, all it's doing is rattling our cage.
Yep and yep. Well stated. Unfortunately, it may all hinge on how much of the reins our knucklehead OC has, and how much impact Gonzalez has, IMHO. Agree with prior concerns of JJs tendency to be laughing things off, kind of like ABrooks. JJ has to mature into a leader.
No offense but this gets reported ever single year before the start of the season. Team has never been so excited or the team is in the best shape in history. Last year Miles was quoted as saying something like the o-line was best he's ever seen. Gotta take this stuff with a grain of salt.
I know, Dandy Don must be a bigger homer and sunshine pumper than me...:hihi:. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm in wait and see mode now. I just can't wait....I really can't wait. I wish there was SEC boxing right now. This is cruel and unusual punishment. opcorn:
Pat Dooley of The Gainesville Sun has unveiled his annual ranking of the SEC's top programs using his "Dooley Decimal System." It's a system so complex and so detailed that only Dooley himself can fully explain it. I mean, some of the top mathematicians from MIT have thrown their hands up in disgust while trying to crack the code. But in general, Dooley takes into account variables such as head coach, coaching staffs, facilities, fan support and revenue in ranking the programs. Here's the way he ranked them this year: 1. Alabama 2. Florida 3. Auburn 4. LSU 5. Georgia 6. Tennessee 7. Arkansas 8. South Carolina 9. Ole Miss 10. Kentucky 11. Mississippi State 12. Vanderbilt The best programs in the SEC - SEC Blog - ESPN
I'm not getting the sudden lovefest for Auburn. They have one good half-season and suddenly they're once again among the upper echelon of the SEC? I'll need to see a lot more out of them in the coming year to jump on that bandwagon.
