I agree with him too, and I also see improvement from our defense every week and and I am assuming they are only going to get better & better, we didnt have 8 sacks but we brought the heat. Enough heat to force 5 ints. This D is the real deal, BUT YES, they will HAVE to take breathers, which why we must sustain drives, AND having excellent Field Position is AWESOME!!
are you magic? i can't figure out how to multi-quote without copying and pasting and i'm not doing that. but anyway, i don't think that we will have to settle for FGs as often as we did saturday. i think it's more realistic that some of those drives will end in TDs once this team starts to gel. i would LOVE if we aired the ball out more often, but i won't complain if we have to rely more on defense and special teams this season. i know it will tire the defense if they're on the field all night, but so far it has worked really well. we have blown out every opponent so far on the field. the score board doesn't look as pretty, but we really have outplayed every team we have faced so far -- especially the two SEC teams we have played.
TO be fair to this LSU O, States D was top 30 and will likely remain close to that. It was also the best D we faced so far. Improvement lies in scoring on every drive except 2, 1 punt and 1 fumble. 8/10 is pretty damn good considering the vandy and UNC game. If we keep improving and never go backwards, you will see a consistent LSU O pushing teams POOP in.
Defense can't keep doing it every week. I know we're talented and deep, but they will start to break down later in the year if the offense doesn't have a legitimate time of possession. They will need to rest and not be on the field after 3 and outs.
I agree with much that has been said, but you also have to remember that field position due to ST will likely not be as consistently awesome as our D, especially as we get further into our schedule and teams are able to practice for it, get more experience, and play away from our strengths. Eventually, teams are going to smarten up and stop kicking, and especially punting, to Peterson ( BTW, Randle is going to be an awesome PR/KR when PP is gone ). A team with a good punter will be able to pin us much further back by kicking it OOB. Then, it will be on our offense to drive 70-80 yards down the field and score. Great kick returns are awesome, too, but keep in mind that only 1 kick per game is free. Any others are coming right after the opposing team scored.
The next 3 games First off you take them 1 game at a time WV - we win - WV is not used to a place like TS - they are not use to seeing D like they will see Sat night. 34 - 6 Tenn - not the same team that we have seen in years past - we win 31 - 6 At the Gators wow - we are 5-0 at the Gators and I can't call it - I am looking for a win hoping for a win - it's hard to win a game at the Swamp! If we win this game watch out - I think we can win this game - No score yet 6-0 would be very nice WV - right now and I am looking forward to the game and seeing our D handle all the stuff a team like this brings - looks like a awesome fan base and I hope all the WV vistors have a great visit in BR!!!! :crystal::crystal::crystal: sure would like nice
1.) LSU does not have a top 10 defense right now and we just got done playing Vandy and Miss State and a depleted NC. It's not going to get much easier then that. 2.) LSU has been out gained in 2 of the 3 games. 3.) True the Ravens did not have much of an O but they could still make 1st downs when it mattered, matter of fact they opened up the scoring with a 38 yard passing play to go up 7-0. 4.) At the end of the day, you are going to have to score points, you narrow your chances of winning if you don't have an O especially one that can't get 1st downs. 5.) The Ravens did NOT have the worse O in the game, they were #18 out 31. If LSU were 60 or so then it would be possible with a a GREAT D, LSU is just really good on D right now. At near 100 in O and about to go against harder Ds in the not too distance future. Positive thinking is a fools man's dream, if positive thinking worked in sports the Chicago Cubs would win the pennant every single year. LSU is going to have to get a lot better in offense if the SEC and National championship is the goal. No you don't need 600 yards offense every game, but if you can't get first downs eventually when you play the better teams you are most probably going to be in a world of hurt. Comparing the Ravens to the Tigers D is very premature and even if LSU's D was the top D, you still need an O. Maybe top 60 would work, I would say the O is much better personnel wise but at the end of the day you have the same captain of the ship.
if anyone thinks we can remain competitive with no passing game then they are fooling themselves what i can't understand is this: why is our play calling not more aggressive especially with the level at which our defense is playing and the great leg of our punter i understand the "not showing the opposition anything" mentality but you have to show something to give them something to have to prepare for
So I guess: - 21 points week one on offense - 27 points week two on offense - 29 points week three on offense Increasing the # of points scored each week against better defenses each week is just not going to cut it! - No need to recognize the improvements, when we can just sit here complain about how lucky we have been against a bunch of scrub teams and how we will get our butts handed to us angainst the meat of the schedule Got It! - No Problem
