I don’t put much stock into stats: EX - If JJ passed the ball 35 times a game he would throw fro 200+ yards EX - If Ridley got 30 Carries he would break 100/yds every week Screw Stats, If Our D and Our special teams can continue to play the way they are, and we can continue to have GREAT field Position, force massive amounts of turnovers, and Control T.O.P do we need an explosive Offense that racks up 500+ yards and runs up the score board like Bama & Oregon??? I agree, 5 FG's is not great because we need to score TD's not just FG's but with what we have now, we are improved over last season, last season 3 losses that could have gone either way...... I am beginning to believe, we are a legit NC contender guys!!!! Don’t want to put the cart before the horse, so lets just focus on WVU!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!
sorry to be argumentative, but to say "no need for an offense" is one of the more idiotic things i have ever read. our d is great. and that is wonderful. but we have to back up their work with points on the board. period. end of story. if you have no offense, you do not have a complete team. you have half a team.
The problem is, we don't want to have to rely on defense alone to carry us to the promised land. As the year goes on, our defense will face tougher and tougher teams, and we'll get some scratches and bruises along the way. Not to mention, you don't want them out on the field the whole game against the likes of Bama, Florida, Arkansas, etc... They'll eventually get worn out, no matter how good they are. The offense has to be able to keep them off the field sometimes. Particularly in the tough games against highly ranked foes. The bottom line is, you have to have more offense than we have currently to be a championship (sec or otherwise) caliber team. I'm not saying it can't be done with little or no offense, but I wouldn't bet my money on it if I were a betting man.
It's not that you don't NEED an offense, but given the choice between a good D and a good O, if you can only have one, any coach would choose defense. You only need to score 1 more point than the other team. When you're top 10 in D and you start out with Vandy and MSU in conference play, you can afford to figure some things out.
Les may need to ask the defense to half ass it during practice. I think they are killing the confidence of our offense.
This is our formula for winning. It's who we are and we may have the defense and special teams to pull it off. Play it safe on offense. Take the 3 points and do a great job covering the kick-off. Send that ferocious D out there and kill their QB on 3rd and long. We hold the bad guys to 17 points or less and we win, I think. It may not get us to 14 and 0, but it could get us to 11-2 and maybe the Sugar Bowl. I'll take it. Unless, of course, this defense keeps getting better. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
The end result for every game is always a W. Some years you just have to score more Some years you have to make them score less Some years you are balanced LSU is almost balanced, but relying HEAVILY on D. If our D should falter, we are basically screwed. The only promise this team has is that Drive after state scored. It was complete perfection..
I agree with all of that except 11-2. I say 10-3. The question is: would you risk 9-4 if you could possibly go 12-1 and win the SEC and get in the big game? I'd rather do whatever it takes to get to Atlanta. And field goals instead of touchdowns won't do it, IMO.
The only team on our schedule that looks better than us right now is 'Bama. I think we'll beat Florida this year. Remember, they go TO ALABAMA the week before we play them. This defense is going to keep us in every game, and may even win one or two.
