It's time to quit kidding ourselves. I waited for more than a day to post this because I wanted to think before writing inflammatory material, but we need to quit kidding ourselves. First: Crowton is not a genius. The two quarterback system does not work. We've got a redshirt freshman with real talent who needs to develop and another who's a competitive kid without the talent to play in the SEC. It's time to quit playing eenie meenie mynie moe and go with the talent. He'll make mistakes but he has the ability to make up for them. The other guy just doesn't have it. Crowton's play calling sucked. We didn't attack the middle of the field at the beginning of the game when we needed to set the tone. Hatch is a back up. Saturday's fumbled handoff wasn't the first time we saw that silliness from him. This alternating quarterback system is a rhythm interrupting, confidence destroying, confusion creating system that needs to be dumped. No continuity on offense means no sustained drives and losses. The other two headed monster that needs to be euthanized is the Tiger's co-defensive coordinator system. The defense looked leaderless, confused and just plain awful. And, no, the answer is not to select one of those guys and give him the job. The answer is to get a good one from somewhere else, as soon as possible. Les is the head coach. He needs to take charge, corral Crowton and tell him what he's going to do. If he leaves, he leaves, there are others out there who can do better than this. He also needs to hammer those two guys who aren't doing their jobs on defense and make it plain that they're holding bus ticket vouchers, too, if things don't change. If a team has two weeks to game plan and prepare for an opponent and goes out onto the field and plays like they've been napping for those two weeks, who do you blame? The two teams are pretty even in talent, but there was an obvious and awfully big differential in preparation and planning.
It's one loss. Let's not lose our heads. It may come down to hiring a new DC, but let's wait and see what the LSU defensive numbers look like at the end of the season. I kind of agree about the quarterback remarks. If they are going to use a two quarterback system, then they need to leave Hatch in for more than one play. Otherwise they are pretty much telegraphing to the opposition that it is going to be a running play. My problem with the two QB system is neither gets the playing time they need to develop their skills and confidence. Some one said if a school has two quarterbacks, it doesn't even have one. I tend to agree. Let Crowton do his job. He has been pretty effective up to this point.
Perhaps you should have waited more that one day. Florida was up, we were down. These kind of games happen. Lee nor Hatch had any time to play Crowton ball. I would love to go undefeated just like every Tiger fan here but it wasn't our day. Lets just relax and let Miles deal with the team and enjoy the rest of the season.
You have a couple of valid points. But, putting a dark cloud over everyone's head for one loss (albeit, a bad one) is wrong. Too many problems in that game to mention. We scored 21 points against one heck of a prepared, fired up, at home team. Defense, a little harder to defend.
Wait longer next time before posting.... blaming the coaches and absolving the players is not a revolutionary reaction among angry fans.
Look, everyone is angry about the game. Crowton, Les, the Co-DC's all will be critiqued this week. But completely writing them off on the basis of one game amid a bunch of very good games is just ridiculous.
