Yes there is qualified immunity usually protects any official from personal liability. However it’s not absolute and has been frayed on the edges. With the political scene he would be a tempting target.
Where's the outrage for all the innocent and decent people murdered everyday by not cops, by people who cops fight and die to subdue? Some clown Minnesota politician said no doubt GF died at the hands of police. I think he died at the hands of fentanyl, probably Chinese fentanyl. And he had the China virus. Maybe GF died at the hands of China.
If George Floyd would have been white, would his death have been nothing more than a China virus w/overdose death?
I have been a student of law for exactly 0 days and I can guarantee you that if I defended this officer he would not be liable for a single penny. 1. Subject had a VPO 2. Subject was AT the residence of the active VPO 3. Subject fought with and overpowered police using non-lethal 4. Subject announced "I'm going to get my weapon" 5. Subject was told repeatedly "DO NOT REACH INTO THE CAR" 6. Subject reached into the car 7. They lit that fool up just like they should have
Watching the closing arguments, the lawyer seems confident but I am not. As stated above, I have 0 days of training as an attorney but with some of the evidence that he has presented I sure would have went a different way. He is making the points, but the language and manor in which he is doing it is putting an awful lot of faith in the collective IQ of the jury. Has anyone seen the jury? Does anyone know the makeup? male/female, race makeup?
Surely the jury is sequestered right? I guess in the digital age it would be hard to keep that cat in the bag
no, they said in court today they are not, and they have been instructed to not watch the news. the defense argued today that there is no way they have not been infected by outside opinions, and the judge rejected it, claiming there was no reason to not trust the jury had obeyed its command to avoid outside info on the case.
