Outside of Patrick....NO ONE was going after the ball tonight. I had high expectations for a Chavis coached defense (ala bring back the Bo Pelini style!!!) and we layed an egg against a mediocre PAC 10 team. A W is a W and I will take it any day (especially after our Oregon State and Arizona State miracles the past few years) but there is A LOT of improving to do before we get into SEC play...as bad as Joe Cox looked today against Okie State. We got a lot of work to do boys before we hit major SEC caliber talent.
Amen! Our defensive looked weak last night, which is scary for our historically strong defensive team.
No D pressure on the line, as a whole. Nevis got around and through a bunk of times but Locker easily sped away from him. There was too much cushion/zone in the backfield and not enough man-on-man. The D will get better. As to O, I can only assume the conservative play was planned as a staging point for rest of season. I pray that was the reason. Bright spot, and probably the reason we won was penalties. UW had a truckload and LSU did not (which is a vast improvement). Kinda surprised that UW didn't have more holding penalties if you catch my drift.:thumb: However I did see frustration rearing its head a couple times on our side. Good game UW, give the rest of the PAC-1 hell so we don't look so bad.
Was Chavis on the sidelines at UT or in the press box? Looked like him and Les had a few "exchanges" last night.
Maybe if he would get his butt back up in the press box, he would see how silly we look with out Middle linebacker 20 yards downfield in zone covereage on 3rd and 5. And our defensive ends dropping in coverage on obvious passing downs instead of trying to get pressure on the QB.
he was on the sidlines for a very long time and his last few years at tenn he moved to the press box.
I see a lot of people questioning Chavis. Which I can understand to an extent but the guy was gold at Tn over the years. We seen pretty much the same type of D we seen last year. There is one common denominator. Miles.
As I stated in another thread just a few moments ago: Pelini's first game as DC (vs ASU) was no better than the one we saw last night and look how well Pelini turned out to be! We were all calling for his head after 2 games that first year (ASU and the Tennessee game). Chavis is proven. It just takes time. To expect a switch in scheme to flip on like a light switch is unrealistic (and when you take the emotion you're feeling out of the equation, you'll surely and ultimately agree).
