I was looking over the bowl schedule posted on ESPN's site and noticed there were no New Year's Day bowl games this year. I imagine it's because New Year's Day is on a Sunday this year and there are NFL games being played. Still, I don't recall this every happening the last time NYD fell on a Sunday. Just seems strange, since ALL the major bowls used to be played then, now none of them are. NYD games have been demoted to the 2nd tier bowls. Oh well...

Very strange indeed, but Cam Newton will be coming to the Dome for the Saints to finish Carolina's ass off and prepare for the playoffs. We are trying to make the march back to Green Bay. Saintslogo

I think so much of college football needs to be addressed and fixed. I have never liked the fact that the Championship games and bowl games have been on at the same time. You have to flip back and forth and miss so much of the games. I would like to see the these games split up so that they aren't on at the same time, space them out!

This isn't the first time this has happened. Or at least, I know it's happened with the major bowls that used to always be on Jan 1.

Sourdoughman, I think they space the bowls out TOO much. I assume you're talking about the CCGs? I'd agree with that, but with selection Sunday, I guess they have to cram em in on Saturday.

The thing that I don't like is when you have 2 SEC teams or matchups you wanna see on New Years Day, Cotton Bowl and Capital One Bowl for example. I also am talking about SEC CG vs other CG's that are on at the same time. I think they can do a better job spacing out the bowls that day so that you don't miss anything......I would agree though that the way the bowl schedule is spaced out in time is not right. I think part of the problem is that there are way too many bowl games. Six win teams should not be playing in bowl games IMHO. I think the whole things needs to be re-evaluated and fixed.

They act like nobody works in January. They need to go back to December Bowl games culminating with the NC on New Years Day. As usual, it's all about the TV $$$.

It will be a little strange without college games on NYD, but at least we have NFL. As for January 2nd, i'm sure there are a lot of pissed off people who have to work that day.

I'm already working on getting off that day

It is all because of the agreement not to have college games on Sunday and no pro-games on Saturday during the regular seasons.

The Rose Bowl has never been played on Sunday, January 1st. That goes back as far as Monday, January 2, 1922 which was the very first time that January 1st fell on a Sunday in the Rose Bowl's history. Same is true for the Sugar Bowl going back to 1939.

    January 2, 1922
    January 2, 1928
    January 2, 1933
    January 2, 1939
    January 2, 1950
    January 2, 1956
    January 2, 1961
    January 2, 1967
    January 2, 1978
    January 2, 1984
    January 2, 1989
    January 2, 1995

With the above history in mind, it seems safe to leave TV and even the NFL out of the picture...

I'm really bummed about it. NYD is one of my favorite days of the year because of the all-day football fest.

Alas, I'm back to work on January 2nd. I always knew that I don't like it when Christmas and New Year's fall on a Sunday. Now, I remember why.
