geauxtigers45 - I graduated from LSU probably before you were born so I have been watching it for a long time. It is not that we have not had defensive ends that are around 300lbs, it is that Chavis likes ends with a lot of speed look at what we have now. You have to understand that these kids come out of high school and once they get into the strength program they add weight. Jackson was 265lbs coming out of high school, Edwards weighed in at 290lbs this past week. Once he gets into the college strength program by the time he is a junior/senior he probably will be at the 300lbs weight as his playing weight. And again if you look at what Chavis likes he wants speed rushers on the outside, I just don't see Edwards as a speed rusher at 300lbs. But hey I could be wrong, but I don't care what position he plays inside or outside I just care that he wears purple & gold on Saturdays!!!

I agree. Not that he couldn't play DE but Chavis definitely prefers the speedy types like Mingo and Montgomery that can get up the field quickly on pass rush. According to bhelm Edwards already weighs 297.

You want your defensive ends to be tall fast and strong, the best example I can think of is Jason Taylor that played for the Dolphins, Jets, then Dolphins to end his career. He is the prototypical defensive end, unless you play a 3-4. Mingo would be the perfect outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense.

You do have a few heavys in the NFL playing DE, Ty Warren is a 300 lb'er. Sopoaga for San Fran is 330. Then you have the other side of it, Mathis for the Colts played at 245.

two different defenses though, colts run a 4-3 where your pass rush generally comes from the DE spot, the 9ers run a 3-4 where the DE job is to hold up the LT while the olb makes the plays

    Any news on him?

That colts d is also built to play with a lead. Look how that worked out with no Peyton this year.

Colts defense has always been that way. If they're smart, they'll learn that a dominating and oppertunistic defense is the best way to go. Doesn't matter though, their drafts gonna be serious offense. Looks like Peyton may get the boot, wayne probably wont be back and Clark will follow manning. look for Luck in the first and a WR or TE like kendall wright or Dwayne Allen
