No matter what happens tomorrow, something is gonna happen that does not make sense. What is worse is this will fuel conceptions that there is now a need for an 8 team playoff instead of doing the right thing and leaving it alone. Anything more than 4 teams will be the death to this, the greatest sport on the planet (channeling nootch here). We go to 8 teams or even do a sample size with 6 and it will be the beginning of the end. We allow this kind of talk and what we will end up with is a fucking wild card team playing for a national championship. THAT is what is fucked about every other sport today. Teams that can barely balance victory through a season will have a shot at the ship. Then we will have to extend the season and THEN we will have to pay these kids on top of their already funded educations. We are already tempting fate with 4 teams. We extend this playoff format, we sell the soul of NCAA football. What little that is left pure in this will be gone.
the soul of college football was bought and paid for long ago. the only ones not receiving a fair cut are the actual players. but we can get into this later. the only problem I see extending it to 8 teams is the regular season becomes less important. but then again, OSU has beaten essentially no one while losing to a 6-6 va tech team and they're in. the big 10 is awful. that conference shouldn't be involved until they upgrade. penn st illinois purdue northwestern indiana michigan rutgers maryland minnesota those are 9 teams that vandi can compete against currently. Ohio st Mich St Wisconsin Nebraska OSU should get little credit for beating up on this shitty conference. their one test outside the conference was Va Tech??? and they lost. no, your ass is out.
That is the single most important issue. There are only 12 games in the regular season. Being this is college football, it is way too hard to extend that without killing the student part of all this. It has to be about body of work, no other way fits. Sure it is okay for round ball because of the longevity of the seasons/ games played, but it can never work for football. In order to focus on the body of work, it is imperative we dismiss any thoughts of extending the playoff system. I think you are giving vandy way too much credit. They actually have a worse QB problem than we do and part of that problem came from us. Can you imagine the chatter if Rivers was still here?
The committee put TCU at 3 to give them a degree of separation from Baylor so as to try to avoid criticism if they put the Frogs in the playoffs and not Baylor this week. Watch what they do in the morning. OSU is a far better TV ratings draw than either Bog 12 team.
See my remarks in the thread about Your Top 4. I see the committee including Ohio State over co-champs Baylor and TCU. But Baylor beat TCU, and for me.... they should be ranked ahead of the horned frogs. Period. End of discussion. But this is really a tough 1. All 6 teams have a solid argument and deserve to be included. But there are only 4 slots. I am glad I am not on the committee. Regardless of who the 4 teams are that are selected --- there will be 2 teams with legit complaints.
This may help, This is the only research I do for a game , it tells me all I need to know they have 3 of the 4 they want I I have Bama vs Florida State would not be surprised if it is Oregon vs Bama . Ohio State is 15 to 1 not so much a nightmare but more like a plan http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-football/odds/futures/
play and win a conf championship game like every other top 4 team. they beat a sad ISU team on the last game of their schedule that was predesigned to be on the day when other conferences were having conf. champ. games. and, they are suddenly "co-champs" over the past 2 weeks, cuz their commish says so. give me a break IMO: 1. ALA 2. ORE -1&2 are no-brainers; quality teams w/great records, won their conf. champ. game, and were ranked 1&2 going in. 3. FSU -undefeated, defending national champs and won their conf. champ. game; should not have been dropped to begin with, and should be in until someone beats them 4. tOSU -same record as Baylor and TCU, but destroyed a quality, ranked team in their conf. champ. game with a 3rd string QB. That isworth more than what Baylor or TCU have done - on the field, not in people's minds. They played their way in and deserve to be the fourth team.
Also, not that it matters much, but I would rank Baylor # 5, and TCU #6. Same record, Baylor won the head to head. Who cares about subjective opinions about who "looks better". Same record, Baylor beat TCU head to head. End of story. Poetic justice that they are co-champs if one of the teams gets in the top 4 ranking for playoff, but Baylor is champ if not, and both will get left out, LMFAO.
