French or Cajun? I just figured my Cali connection there would get it....we speak Spanglish mostly. And mostly good play. By the time we get to the end of the season, who is really remembering the games from September anyway? If a team is peaking now and they have the depth to do so, that's what I would rather see. True enough. I have been watching USC fans get their pants in a wad over how few Trojans made the conference All-Academic team this year. Nobody really cares as long as they remain eligible.
I think the right 4 teams were selected. 12-1 Bama SEC champs 12-1 Oregon Pac-12 Champs 13-0 FSU (#3 because they haven't been very impressive but are last years champs and played 12 FBS Teams 12-1 Ohio State -- very impressive last night in a conf champ game 11-1 Baylor won head to head over TCU ... "conference co-champs" weak non conf sched 11-1 TCU lost to Baylor.... "conf co-champs"

You just made my point. Why should TCU through Michigan State be considered as a potential national champ? It is about every game of the season that should count. That is what puts fans in the seats because regardless, McNeese does factor in the balance of the season. With 8 teams it does not so who really wants to go to that game after all? There would be half empty seats half the season. Now we cant afford to send a full band, much less a live tiger that prefers a beach ball to a trailer. Really? And what has that got them? It certainly does nothing towards expanding their programs. They ain't adding seats to keep up with the regular season demand. Them, having a playoff system is the only choice they have to sustain their programs. Why? I am an LSU fan. Why would I want to sell that out to prove that I want to keep what is already there? I suggest wanting to be judged for what every game of the season rewards you. You suggest making it easier for a team to be rewarded because they finally got hot at the end of the season. With 8 teams, that promotes scheduling more cupcakes. With just 4 that practice is contained and rather promotes scheduling better OOC teams. Something we obviously did not have in mind with our schedule next season.
I agree but the good thing is that the debate is over the last spot and not the first two. I realize that statement can be as wrong as it is right but in theory, if you know what I'm saying.
I also think if it was Texas in TCU's position they would be in and OSU would be on the outside. Their rationale would have been the ugly loss to the Hokies. Of course, that's just speculation on my part, but I'm not naive enough to think there's no politicking going on behind those doors. Texas is a brand name, TCU is not.
Exactly what I have been saying. Anybody who thinks the Committee wasn't influenced by "Brand Names" and potential TV ratings is nuts. Ranked as to their national TV appeal I'll arbitrarily give Alabama a 10. A long winning tradition with rabid fans who will travel. Fans who either love them or hate them. THE Buckeyes I would have to rate right along the Tide in terms of TV appeal and tradition. If Alabama is a 10 in ratings appeal OSU is either a 9 or a 10. Its no cooincidence that the two most appealing teams are matched up in the first round. I would rank Florida State as a 7 as far as TV appeal. Yes, they are a longtime national brand name and they do have a winning tradition but do they have as many fans who will travel as Bama and OSU? Oregon plays on the West Coast and aren't seen by a lot of viewers in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. And they are a Johnny come lately as a national brand name. I would rate the Ducks as a 5 or a 6 as far as TV ratings appeal. There you have your 4 playoff teams. Baylor? Great team who deserves to be there but give them a 2 as far as TV ratings appeal. They are a regional niche brand. Same with TCU but give them only a 1. Bama vs FSU and Oregon vs OSU in the first round would have made more sense. Proximity to New Orleans for FSU and the fact that OSU fans are used to traveling to the Rose Bowl and they travel well. But if the committee matched them up that way we never get the biggest ratings draw of Bama-OSU after Oregon Hammers the Buckeyes. Its all about the dollar and Baylor and TCU are just shit out of luck. They live in the low rent district of college football
