Well, I lucked up and got a free hotel stay for Friday and Saturday...It gets better since we're riding the bus with the band on Friday so I dont have to pay gas...So I will have some cash for fun. Any good local eats? Really in the mood for some good cajun food! Bars/clubs? Thanks guys!
There is this really cool dance club/bar called Splash on Highland road...bring all your Gump friends, they should enjoy it.
I typed this up for coworker that went to UGA and came in to BR for the game. Hopefully you will not have as good a time. I would recommend these restaurants which are within walking distance of campus: • The Chimes – Highland road at the North gates of LSU. This is my favorite restaurant in BR. It’s about 30 yards from LSU campus. They serve Cajun food, seafood as well as sandwiches and burgers. They have a ton of beers bottled and on tap. I would get there as soon as the open because they fill up fast. http://www.thechimes.com/ • Serrano’s – Right next to the Chimes. This in a good Mexican place close to campus. They have great margaritas and a really good game day environment. They block off the parking lot and have a big party with a band for each game. http://www.serranossalsacompany.com/ • Walk-On’s – This is a newer version of the Chimes but located on the South Side of campus. Food is not as good as the Chimes but still pretty good. They have a big outdoor deck and a bunch of flat screen TVs to watch games. http://walk-ons.com/ Off campus these restaurants are good: • Sammy’s – South of campus on Highland road. A local favorite. http://local.yahoo.com/info-18248963-sammy-s-grill-baton-rouge;_ylt=As4bovf7ajyewX9hqUk.3QNmRGoL • Galatoire’s - Famous New Orleans restaurant that opened a second location in Baton Rouge after Katrina. Go here if you want higher end dinning. It's a bit a a drive from campus though. http://galatoiresbistro.com/
Any good restaurants? Are you kidding me, rookie? We eat good in Baton Rouge. There is some damn good food in this town, especially seafood. Mike Andersons, Parrains, Drusilla Seafood, and Ralph & Kacoos are the most popular. ACME Oyster House is new. All will be crowded on game weekends but you can get in with a reasonable wait, they are used to it. TJ Ribs is especially good at moving a crowd through on game day and serves fine BBQ. Good off-campus Bar & Grills abound. The Chimes, Walk-on's, The Pastime, Georges, Ivars, Sammy's and Brewbachers are all great LSU bars with good food. Juban's is kind of upscale but has the finest Creole cuisine in town. Boutin's for Cajun cuisine and music. Does Eat Place or Ruth's Chris for steak. And don't forget 24-hour breakfast at Louie's Cafe, a classic just-off-campus diner with the best omelettes and burgers in town. Game-Day traditions: Go see Mike the Tiger's new million-dollar habitat, our live Bengal Tiger Mascot. There is usually music and a Jambalaya stand nearby The LSU Tiger Band marches down the hill to Tiger Stadium well before the game and it is something to see and hear. It will be crowded, but the crowd response is part of the show. Tailgaiting is legendary around campus before the game. Nobody, I mean nobody, cooks more or better food than LSU tailgaters. Night Life? Two riverboat casinos downtown for a start. Live music at The Caterie and The Varsity near campus. And New Orleans is only an hour away . . .
Well, I know ya'll got goot foor red, I just didn't know what to visit...and I hoping that there are some Tiga fans out there that will actually offer a Bama boy some good tailgate eats! I'm staying at Holiday Inn South on Airline Hwy. Hopefully it's not too far from the action?
