Let me kind of add a few things here. The best NFL QB's of the past decade, have also been the best pocket passers, Aaron Rogers, Brady, Brees and the Mannings. Hard to find these guy right? Rogers was drafted 10 years ago, yep 2005 draft. In 10 years you can count maybe 3 really good pocket passers? Luck, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco? Even the NFL has a hard time finding really good QB's.
Again you are comparing apples and oranges. No one is talking about NFL qbs here. The point is it doesn't seem to be that hard to find a good college qb. Unless your name is Les. Just about everyone else has it figured out
Any argument about how impossibly hard it is to find a competent starting QB in college went down the toilet last season when Ohio State trotted out 3!
If you really pay attention to other schools you'll see that top-caliber quarterbacks are fairly rare everywhere. It's the main reason college teams went to "dual threat" quarterbacks like high schools have always done. Big, smart, accurate drop-back passers just don't come along every day. Key word is "smart". Mauck and Flynn won us national championships with average athletic skills because they had brainpower and a work ethic. Lee, Jefferson, Jennings and Harris, have been athletic but kind of lacking in mental agility. Perilloux was talented, but lacking in maturity and character. I will agree with you that finding a guy with an arm and some speed does't seem to be that hard. However, situational awareness, quick thinking, keen perception, maturity, and leadership are far more vital. Add the kind of character that results in working hard, studying film, making grades, and keeping out of trouble and those are the qualities that we need to be seeking in a quarterback. Those virtues are harder than hell to find in a guy who also has an accurate arm and mobility. And they can be awfully hard to assess in a young high school quarterback. There is a lot more luck in recruiting than is commonly recognized.
Maybe the Mannings should clone themselves and go into the business of producing NFL quality quarterbacks.
There are a lot and I mean A LOT of schools so much better off than we are at QB. This is fact and it is not debatable. We can talk about why, but the fact is, we sick at QB.
They have been trying to do that with their camp for years. It ju It is your opinion and it is completely debatable. There are a lot more schools who are worse off than LSU at QB.
When I have a bit more time I will make you a list. You can like it or not but truth is truth. Oh and there are not that many worse off. Even fewer that would trade given the opportunity. It is what it is Amigo.
