I noticed the improvement tonight. It was just slight movement in the pocket, ala Brees, that just got him in a good position to be comfortable to make the throw. Obviously his lack of mobility will hurt him more than anything else, but the arm strength can't be denied, and if you can't make those throws, you won't get drafted. His decision making is what has improved the most. The ball comes out of his hands quickly. And he has learned to just throw the ball away when the play isn't there. NFL head coaches like that attribute a lot.
You rang. I was talking with a Draft Scout the other day, he said preseason Mett was a mid-rounder. I'll get his input later in the week. If Mett keeps improving, hes moving up. NFL teams are taking notice. Last year was a weak draft with the QB position, this year, a bunch coming out. I think Loston was nicked today, he was seen as the highest ranked Sr. in this preseason. LSU has a bunch of Jr's that could leave early again this year.
Yes would love to hear what he says. I assume you have some thoughts on the matter, based on what you have seen so far?
UAB may prove to have the worst pass defense in the NCAA this season. They are giving up passing records to opposing QB's every week. We did what we were supposed to do. Mett is looking like JaMarcus Russell in 2006, and that's a compliment. Let's just hope he brings his A game in the big games too. That's where the NFL scouts will be looking at.
Hard to critique a performance like that, but one thing I noticed, and it's probably nothing, was that our primary receiver was so wide open that Mett tended to stare them down. He never had to scan the field for 2nd or 3rd reads. Same thing as last week too. Just hope that doesn't come back to bite when we play better defenses. And next week will be the same as tonight.
I like what I see so far. I still see a lot of NFL teams needing QB's. Remember this, Matt Stafford just got an extension of 3-year, $53 million. This is for a QB that threw 20 TD's and 17 Ints last year. Why, because they though he was the best that they could get right now. I know this, some of the throws Mett has done, are NFL throws. He has moved light years from what I see. Mett sees two guy getting open all night (Landry and OBJ). He was looking for OBJ, once he saw him covered, he checked down to Landry (Who was wide open). Mett is doing a good job of checking down, setting his feet, following through with his throws. The throw to OBJ in the 1st quarter was 55 yds. in the air with good touch. Many throws are coached by Cam, you see much of the same when Flacco does them. Speaking of, I know its the first game of the season, but the Ravens offense looked off against Denver the other night. I know many were putting the blame on Cam last season, we'll see how they do the next couple games. I'm just glad they got rid of him.
Not a chance. Not by beating up UAB. He will move up from the third round slot he's been projected for sure, but its a long season.
Just Izzy saying it makes me tend to side with you. From the guy who called the Georgia game over in the first half??lmao All that aside, one thing I do agree with Izzy on is UAB or not, he dropped passes inside 3 defenders and put the ball where only the receiver could catch it. He seemed to do it with so much ease and just a flick of the wrist.
mett's looked good but, as some pointed out, it's the mobility thing that may keep him from going early.
