you're out of tune with how things are done these days there is a built in pay scale for rookies they employed a couple of years back, so even if a QB gets taken first overall, he is only capable of making a certain amount of money on his contract, which is greatly reduced from the out of control contracts being handed out before that time
The knock on Zach will be his lack of mobility. More and more, you see the league favoring guys who can at least keep a play alive with their feet, and I think that'll hurt his draft stock.
Actually its that built in pay scale that causes them to not be drafted as early. If you draft a qb later you get more years out of them at a lower rate. If they are good enough to keep around getting that extra year at super low cast is that important.
Not "mobile" QBs, just guys with good footwork that can ocassionally scramble, a la Brees, Rodgers, Flacco, etc.
Brees has really good footwork in the pocket. Hell 3 of the 4 best qb's in the NFL aren't mobile, they do have great footwork in the pocket though. Brady, Manning, Brees, and the only mobile one is Rodgers and its not like he is elusive on his feet. These read option qb's aren't gonna win you a Super Bowl, because they aren't good enough throwing the football when you take away the threat of them running. I like ZM's chances in the NFL, especially if he lands somewhere with a good pro to learn behind and a good coaching staff.
Mett just picked apart a terrible passing defense. Personally, his work last week was more impressive.
