OK, I heard Stuart Scott say a few weeks ago that Greg Oden, b/c he didn't play last year as a rookie, could be the ROY next year in the NBA.

My question is this: Could Robert Meachem be ROY in the NFL this year using the same logic?

I am not 100% sure, but I seem to remember hearing that as long as a player did not register a recorded stat, he is still a rookie. Even if he was drafted in a previous year.

I won't lie, I was pissed when they drafted him. I didn't think they needed a receiver there, and sure didn't think he would be the one to pick even if they did.

    Hope he proves me wrong.

I dont think the logic applies, because Oden was hurt, Meachem wasnt hurt all year or was he?

Meachem was pretty much hurt all year. He wasn't even active for a single game I don't think.

I'm not sure that it's the same in every sport. In fact in baseball you can actually play and still be considered a rookie the next year so long as you didn't get a certain number of at bats or innings pitched.

neither player will be eligible for ROY.
