NFL Power Rankings Preseason - National Football League - ESPN

I don't know if I want to laugh uncontrollably or punch someone in the face.

FYI, the "staff" that compiled this list are: "The rankings were determined by a poll of four voters on ESPN.com's NFL staff: writers John Clayton (AFC East, NFC East), James Walker (AFC North, NFC North), Paul Kuharsky (AFC South, AFC West), and Mike Sando (NFC South, NFC West)."

This Mike Sando guy is a complete dipshiit.

One more piece of evidence proving that, outside of Louisiana, the Saints' championship is seen as "a great story", but not indicative of who the best team was last season.

IMO, like college football....preseason rankings are EARNED thru consistency. One or two more years like last season will earn that respect for the Saints. The Colts have been up here for a while now. Im ok with a #2 "preseason" ranking behind the Colts.

Yeah i agree, i don't think it's a slight at the Saints season last year, but more of a lack of consistency.

Which is why the "America's Team" crap that people like to spit is ludicrous.

With that said, the champ should start at No. 1.

From a fan standpoint, it may be true, although it really depends on how many of the bandwagoners jump ship if the Saints don't start out as hot as they did last year. As much as I can't stand the Cowboys, I have to admit they've built a national fanbase that's stood the test of time.

The media's never been on-board beyond the "great story" aspect of last season.

This. I've seen the Saints ranked as low as 10th in some pre-season rankings.

I believe the NFL requires that the Mannings' asses get kissed at every opportunity.

With a playoff system, does it really matter? Everyone is #1 on the first day. If anything, these "rankings" can give the team reason to prove people wrong. That must be what it's for.

Well, that and a way to pass time until kickoff.

Quit being a prick. Of course it does not matter and no one said it does. It's an observation by Clair that prompted discussion. Personally, I think it's more of a faggy love for Peyton than it is disrespectful of the Saints. Still, the Super Bowl champ should be #1 to start the following season.
