I'm not about to defend Plaxico Burress' actions in carrying a loaded handgun into a NYC night club and subsequently shooting himself. He got sentenced to a 2 year jail term. Yet Donte Stallworth kills a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida and is sentenced to 30 days jail time after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter. To quote an old Jerry Reed Smokey & the Bandit lyric "Donte got the gold mine and Plaxico got the shaft."
Donte' had enough sense to at least act contrite. I'm in no position to judge, but everything I've seen convinces me that he realizes he made a huge mistake and he regrets it every day. I don't get that feeling at all from Plax. All I saw was him trying to 1) deny 2) deflect) 3 justify 4) say he's sorry after he saw he wasn't getting out of it. I think that's the difference. FWIW, I'm not a fan of either so that doesn' bias my viewpoint one way or the other.
Yep we discussed this in one of their threads and I completely agree with you COTiger. I hope Stallworth doesn't play another down in the NFL.
plax really got screwed. 2 years? he had no malicious intent and hurt no one but himself. just seems crazy. if i was plax i would go insane with anger.
Thanks for that but the question was directed at the poster who posted it. Glad to know your feelings on it though. :thumb:
Gun laws in New York are an obscenity against the second amendment of the Constitution but yes, Plaxico is an idiot for not knowing it. Still, two years is way too stiff a sentence since he didn't hurt anybody but himself. Dante is not a murderer. He is guilty of manslaghter. Even so, he should have spent a lot more time in jail than 20 days
the bad thing about it.... He accepted a plea for 2 years. This carries a 4 year sentence. This dude's life is ruined, a kid's father is locked in jail now, he admitted what he did was wrong, he has been very humble in this situation, and he gets 2 years in jail? If he were Eli Manning do you think he would have been sentenced?
