Look, I'll concede that Miles, even after his colossal foul-up in Oxford, deserves to return as LSU's head coach next year. But next year has got to be a special year. It can be, and it should be. After the win vs. Arkansas CLM admitted he was under pressure: "[This team] fought like hell," he said, "in an area where there is a swirling backdrop and agendas." He meant, of course, that Tiger Nation had bailed on him when a quarter of the fans left in the middle of the second half of that game. They had an I-want-Miles-fired agenda and provided an emptying stadium as a backdrop. Miles is as sick as any LSU fan that "Saban is better" is a common theme in the Land of Purple and Gold. Having lost two in a row to Nick Satan, CLM knows next year has got to be special for LSU. No longer should Miles have QB issues. Jefferson will be a seasoned vet. Ridley should lead a solid stable of running backs. Toliver and Randle should be two of the top receivers in the SEC. The D will have many players back, and a full year under Chavis's coaching. Another highly ranked recruiting class will land in Baton Rouge. Let's see how Miles and his team respond in the Capital One, and then next season. They should have the motivation to do something special. Miles knows they need to. :tigereye:
yes, but even as someone who has supported miles, i will readily admit that his time clock (pardon the pun) just got shorter. and i give him, the rest of the coaching staff, and the team credit for winning under that pressure. the team could have rolled over and given up after ole miss, but everyone did a good job of keeping them focused. im already looking forward to seeing how they respond. agree.
Remove Perrilloux and the CO-DC's and you have this season. Good to see you finally realize that. Next year there will be no excuses and if Miles blows it, you can recycle all of your threads then.
:geaux: Agree that next year will be a pivotal year in Miles' tenure at LSU. He will definitely be expected to improve over this year, no doubt about it and he should. If not, the pressure on him will go up significantly. I'm looking forward to the Cap One against JoPa though and the Tigers will be better next year. We'll have a good shot at both 'Bama and the Gators next year. :thumb: :LSU231:
More importantly if we keep Crowten and Stud + another 3 losses to Bama/Florida/Ole Piss = Miles is done. If we get rid of Crowten and Stud I think Miles has less heat on him. :tigerhead
TC is that you...you sunshine pumping, Pollyanna? Just kidding...I knew the real kinder, gentler you would just shine on through !!.We just HAVE to beat Bama next year in Death Valley. HAVE TO !!!! See there, I recognized your debate tactic and have played into it. It's an old trick that I've used in debates before. Set the trap first (by setting vague, implied, unrealistic benchmarks that Miles will have to be held accountable to). Second take away legitimate potential arguments against your case (by coaxing agreement that next year Miles will have to do something special as far as victories are concerned and, that All the pieces are in place to meet these implied, unrealistic expectations...such as going undefeated, winning the national championship, etc.). Third, wait for the first loss or non blowout win to happen. Forth spring the trap by pointing out that your opponents', previously agreed to, expectations have not been met.. thus destroying their credibility. end game. So in this example, if LSU doesn't beat Alabama...I have no more credibility and you seemingly win.
It's not clear to me we'll be that much better. I hope we are, but not clear. JJ will have another year of experience, that should help him. Ridley, Murphy and Ford will tote the rock; are they significantly better than Scott and Williams, that's not clear, but I do like what I've seen of Ridley. Wide receiver, we lose LaFell, we can stay equal but stay about even unless Randall never drops a ball. We lose Dickson, one of the best pass catching tight ends is school history, how we gonna top that? We lose Black on the o-line, and Hitt??? On defense, secondary comes back and should be great, unless Jones goes pro. Replace 2 linebackers, and Alexander and Alem on the d-line. It should be possible to get an upgrade at Alem's slot, he seemed like a good speed rusher but not strong enough against the run. Two frosh behind him, Montgomery and Brockers (6'6", 285). Schedule, hmmm. Bama brings back McElroy, plenty good at QB, bring back Julio, Ingram, Richardson, they're good to go. Hopefully Fla. will back down, but Brantley should technically be a better passer than Tebow. We play big games in BR. I'll have to think about this, no pre season prediction yet, but it's not clear to me that next year is our year...
