He has the tools from the waste up. His feet are what will ultimately make it impossible for him to ever be great. He makes Marino and Manning look like dual threat QB's. I do respect him for sticking it out, even though I think it is not a great decision for his career.
I don't think he's that poor of a runner... If he can make better decisions in the passing game, he could be a very good QB. If he isn't getting any snaps next year, I still look for him to transfer. He's just not going to transfer this off-season.
Have you seen Sam Bradford run? His lack of foot speed hasn't affected his accomplishments. Actually I saw Marino in one of those made for TV sports contests outperform Randall Cunningham in one of those agility/throwing accuracy contests. I was surprised.
That's my Christmas present! Please Santa, transfer Lee back to high school. He obviously can't play college ball, at least not at LSU.
That's a bit harsh. It seems as though all the experts, including Les Miles, believe that this guy can play at an LSU level. I have no reason to believe that he CAN'T. I have seen him perform poorly, but I agree with everyone else that this was a guy with a rocket arm that showed flashes of brilliance, but overall played poorly because he was in above his head. I think he's got the potential.
I'm really looking forward to an LSU victory over Ga Tech, a "damn fine" recruiting class, and a wide open competition for starting QB next spring. I have no preference at all who wins, but I was just thinking how so much better off we'll be next year. Here's two thoughts for you'all to think about: -Would anyone really think that Jarrett Lee won't come back much improved next spring - especially in the reading defense, and going through progressions departments? His baptism this year was really by fire and I suspect he learned a lot from the experience. -How would Jordan Jefferson have fared under the same set of circumstances? We'll never know, but him having a great game vs. Ga Tech might give us a clue. Either way, I hope Jarrett Lee bounces back next year like I think he will and I hope Jordan Jefferson knocks us all out in the bowl game and beyond. The coaches will figure out a great way to get Russell Shepard as many touches as possible too. Looks to me like we'll be in great shape next season. I'm starting to put my purple and gold glasses back on!
I have no doubt that JL will improve his ability to read defenses. My concern is in his confidence, ability to be a leader, and not get overwhelmed by pressure. Well, JJ was a true freshman while Lee had already had a year in the system. Would JJ have done better through the season? I doubt it. But if JJ had that extra year of prep time... probably. We'll be in decent shape - not great, but not near as bad as this year.
I think he is unable to pose a legit threat as a runner, unlike Jefferson, Hatch or Sheppard. That eliminates some plays from the offense when he is in there. The ability to take off and run when no one is open is a blessing for an inexperienced QB. Lee himself has been quoted as saying he should throw the ball away more, but doesn't. When Jefferson played he made several first downs scrambling when no one was open and did not have to force the ball or throw it away.
We'll be in decent shape - not great, but not near as bad as this year.[/quote] I agree, I think people are too optimistic about our QB situation. After the Auburn game most thought Lee was the answer after he replaced Hatch and shook off the nerves of that first interception. Little did we know the interceptions would return in future games and the confidence would be a nagging problem. The bottom line is we still won't have a QB with a season of playing experience under his belt. How our number 1 QB responds next year will be as much of a mystery as it was this year. The biggest difference is that we will have more options of who to play at the position. I guess most people figure someone should be able to step up and do a decent job.
