    I think Hatch takes the first snap for :lsup: in 2009. Like others have said, he's got the maturity and brain to manage (I know, I hate that word too, but it fits) the game while his physical skills keep him limited in the number of big plays he can make. Frankly, he reminds me of JPW at Bama, he'll just be a junior rather than a senior. Not the best in terms of qb skills but will probably not hurt the team with his decisions.

    And, like MLU posts, CLM seems to give seniority a lot of pull and remember that Hatch, but for the apparent season ending injury, would likely still be the starter.

    But wouldn't you think that Hatch will still have the maturity and knowledge of the playbook? In my mind, that gives him the edge.

    Of course, I don't see them in practice and I don't make the decision, but based on what I have seen my qb line-up for the next two years would be:

    2009

    1) Hatch, Junior;
    2) JJ, Sophomore, but used a lot like Tebow was used when Leake was the starter at Fla.;
    3) Lee, RS Soph, break glass only in case of emergency;
    4) Shepard, take the red shirt year that JJ should have been able to have this year.

    2010

    1a) Hatch, Senior;
    1b) JJ, Junior;
    2) Shepard, RS Freshman;
    4) Lee, Junior and hope he qualifies for TOPS (but he wouldn't because he's not a graduate of a Louisiana high school, right?) because I'd probably pull his scholly and let him run the scout squad if he wanted to walk on.

    This takes some explaining. Assuming that everyone develops as it looks like they will, I would be upfront with Hatch and JJ going into this year and let them know that through Spring Practice and Summer camp they're competing for the starting spot because Shepard is No. 2 and the loser would be Number 3. And I would use Shepard, this year, like Tebow.

    Now that I've had a minute to think about it, I might not pull Lee's scholly because in the worst possible case scenario (in terms of this position, not the teamas a whole, that is :lol:) if JJ is the starter and sets the world on fire and goes pro then in 2011 you'd have Shepard, a RS Soph, being backed up by Lee, a Senior, not such a bad situation.

    Course, that's just my take on it.

    I know. Doesn't fit the Lee narrative. How dare I disagree with the talking points. :grin:

    I watched every game twice except for the ones that weren't televised - only watched those once.

    Lee was very accurate at times Go to LSUSports.net and rewatch. He was hot and cold. But when he was hot, he actually looked good. Trouble is, when he was cold - he sucketh spectacularly...

    Lee isn't a running QB. But he's mobile enough to roll out, escape pressure, throw on the run, even run an option once or twice a game, etc. Is he a picture perfect spread QB? Hell No.

    Neither is JJ. For all the talk about Lee having lead feet, there's an equally inaccurate meme out there about JJ being a runner. In HS, maybe. In college? He's neither speedy (not slow, but certainly not speedy) nor is he shifty, nor does he have a Tebow stature. Which means he's going to get hurt if he runs a lot. Don't look for JJ to run much more than Lee would once he knows the entire offense.

    Sheppard is apparently a completely different story.

    That's the problem right there, and the reason I'm attempting to throw a little love Lee's way in this Lee-love-vaccum of a thread...

    There's no telling. It's not like Lee was a sophomore with two years of understudy going into this year. Hell, this is the first year he had any significant PRACTICE experience (snaps, coaching focus, etc) much less PT. So we just don't know yet how he'll rebound from his injury and perform.

    Same goes for JJ. How will he perform against GA Tech? Will he be able to tame his arm? Will he develop some pocket discipline? Will he be able to handle the entire playbook?

    Honestly, I don't care who steps up. I just hope somebody damned well does.

    I think the real background problem some folks are having has nothing to do with Lee or JJ or Hatch and EVERYTHING to do with a lack of confidence in Coach Miles' ability to put the right guy under center. I think most of what I'm calling the "Lee Hate" is actually fear that Miles will irrationally put a more senior Lee in front of a notionally more capable JJ.

    Just thinkin'...

    Yeah, I hear you and I understand that I'm making a huge assumption when I say that everybody develops as expected. I'm also assuming no serious injuries etc.

    Oh, I saw it. I didn't say JJ wasn't fast. But Trindon was coasting WAITING for an opening and WTF was JJ doing there anyway? You'd think the fact that we pulled his "medical" redshirt officially because we were down to our 3rd string QB wouldn't have been lost on him. :lol:

    Anyway - I hear ya - but Holliday was in neutral, not third or fourth or fifth gear. Only Demps and a couple other folks will catch that fella...

    Yes and Perrilloux is going to win 4 Heisman trophies at LSU. You might want to let him at least get on campus before you declare him king.

    I really can't agree with all of the Lee-starting talk. This guy threw pick after pick. I'll give him the fact that he wasn't rattled by throwing as many INT's as he did and he took responsibility, but Jordan Jefferson performed much better. People claim that the fact that JJ only had a portion of the playbook to is a knock on him, but imagine what he'll do next year with a full playbook! He threw for 2 touchdowns and, more importantly, 0 interceptions against ARK. That game was lost by the defense, not bad QB play. Against Ole Miss he was 10-20 with a bad pick that only occurred due to a tipped ball. In the same game, Jarrett Lee was 4-12 with a pick and 0 TDs. As for Hatch, he may come to play next year, but he seems to be a mediocre version of jefferson. He has running skills, but isn't as fast as JJ and doesn't have the same arm, either.

    I think Shepard will be the wild card because of his athleticism. Ohio State fans thought that Boeckman would finish the year as starter in Columbus, but eventually a heralded dual-threat QB took over in a traditional style offense. I think LSU's offensive style fits Shepard's mold better than Ohio State's does, and Shepard will enroll early to begin learning the playbook. I don't think he gets significant time at QB, but if we end up in a rut, look for Miles to turn to this guy's playmaking abilities.
