The offense will sink or swim totally dependent on whether or not Harris/Jennings can do what Cam wants when the lights come on and there are butts in the seats. Doesn't matter what they did in high school or at practice. Can they do it (Passing accuracy under pressure, read defenses, receiver progressions, game management, etc.....) all at game speed week after week in the SEC? Nobody knows yet...........
You can tell some by practice, everything Cam does is at a fast pace, this slows down the game speed. Like I've pointed out, LSU led the nation in 3rd down conversions(over 57%). That tells you, the OC knows what to call, an when to call it. He sees a weakness on a defense, an exploits it. I really like the OL and Coach Grimes, depth is like never before, same with the TE position. We should be able to line up, run at will against most teams. A good OC uses his strengths. I like the start of the schedule, allows the young QB's get their feet on the ground
LSUBraveheart I agree we don't know yet and of course the qb is extremely important. We need for one of these guys to be the real deal, and by that I mean to be calm under pressure, have the game slow down in their mind and minimize mistakes. We'll also need them to make plays and the correct decisions. Can't wait for the season to start.
Never try to put words in my mouth. You get it all wrong. I said that walk-on quarterbacks never see the field. They are practice arms.
What war? Are you daft? Did they transfer from a school where they were scholarship athletes? Have they seen the field? Hatch didn't actually walk-on, he was recruited and he got the first scholarship available within a few months. He held a scholarship when he played.
Everybody is anxiously awaiting the arrival of "Baby Welker" to the offense. Super quick, runs great routes and catches everything. Now do we have anybody that can consistently get him (And the other WR's) the ball with accuracy?
Wes is 5'9" 185, Trey is more like 6' an right at 200#. I do think Cam will use him in a number of spots on the field, too much talent. As for getting the ball to the playmakers on the field, some people act like these QB's have never thrown the ball before. We all knew Mett had a whip, Cam took him and taught him the finer points to being a QB. It's more than just having a strong arm. When to put air under it, when to throw the frozen rope. Everything else that makes for a better QB, where are the Safeties, coverage, hot reads, etc. Cam will fine tune the game of these QB's, that's the thing about a good OC, knowing what play to call at the right time and knowing your QB can get the yards needed 99% of the time. I've said before, this years schedule sets up nicely for breaking in the youth of the QB's at their position.
Really! He got the scholarship in months, before he ever saw the field. I know who he is, chief, he came from a junior college. I also know that he hasn't seen the field, nor has any other non-scholarship quarterback. Kragthorp is a junior who has yet to letter.
I hope he at least earns his nickname by his second season at LSU. It's all wait and see until we find out if we truely have a QB out of the 2 Cam was given to choose from. I have my doubts, but am praying for the best. If it doesn't look promising, I hope Leslie doesn't drag his feet too long. I am anxious to see how quickly these guys get the hook if they are struggling. Will it be Jarrett Lee timing on the hook, or Jordan Jefferson timing?
