chad to LB? not likely. he'd have to gain at least 25-30 lbs while also balancing baseball (which he is looking lights-out in) all in one offseason. He will be an "in the box" safety like Roy Williams
25-30 lbs? Really? Isn't he already like 220? Either way I agree that I don't think it'll happen but that he'll be flying up in run support plenty.
I know its been discussed plenty here and I don't disagree with you analysis. Wondering if the coaches ever even enterained the idea. I've never ready anything about any coach even discussing a move to LB. Anyone heard anything ?
Jai Eugene needs to step it up and become the talent that he is capable of being. Chris Hawkins does not make me feel safe.
I have 3 big things I'm curious to see with our new defensive coaching changes - if there will be any personnel changes, how the guys improve from last year, and what kind of impact the young guys make. I feel confident that the players will improve, but it needs to be substantial. With Curtis Taylor moving on, there will definitely be some change there. The status quo would be to move McCray over to Taylor's FS position & have Phelon Jones moving to starting nickelback. We'll see if they deviate from that, but I could easily see that still being the case. Loston may get some garbate time, but I don't think he sees a lot of PT.
if it were 2000-2004 i would have said that comment was just retarded. but.....from 2005 and on we have learned that Les Miles rarely plays freshmen. I wanna say Patrick Peterson has been the only true freshman that has gotten significant playing time, in the Miles era, that didnt come from another player getting injured. (please someone correct me if im wrong) I hope Loston starts right off the bat, and wins the safety position and chad jones is moved to linebacker, but i honestly dont think either are going to happen.
Off the top of my head: Chad Jones played a ton his freshman year. To a lesser extent, so did Terrance Toliver and Drake Nevis. Richard Dickson, Charles Scott, Danny McCray and Keiland Williams all played a lot their freshman seasons. There could be others that I'm missing and some of these played due to other players getting injured. But there have been freshman who've made significant contributions. In a larger sense, I really don't want it to be easy for freshman to contribute. I love the fact that our depth chart is stacked with talented players and that only the most gifted freshman can get on the field.
Copied from DandyDon's blog - "I have also been told that after watching a few video films LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is very impressed with sophomore linebacker Ryan Baker's speed and toughness and sophomore defensive back Ron Brooks' aggressive style of play." These two guys acted like they wanted to play last season but got on the field only sparingly. We may see more of them this season. I might add Karnell Hatcher also. Harry Coleman, Kelvin Sheppard, and Chris Hawkins need to step it up.
