How many OOC games are scheduled each season? And you choose the one worthy opponent. Wisconsin, not so much, but Southern Miss, Jacksonville State, and any Directional Alabama all are.
That may be true, but there's no way that we could schedule multiple OOC games against teams from BCS conferences (2011 was the exception). No one else does it. Schedule 1 tough OOC game per season and you're good.
I would be interested to know exactly how difficult it is. And with the upcoming playoff, how can fans be so sure that 1 tough OCC is good enough? How many one loss teams were there in the rankings at the end of the season this year?
What I mean is that it would be difficult to do and win them all. You need a certain amount of cupcake games on your schedule. Us facing 2 good OOC teams in '11 was a rarity. Us ass-raping both of them was even rarer. Generally speaking, if you play 1 good OOC team, your resume will look better than that of many other schools.
Yep, I have to listen to the radio honks up here constantly complain about Stoops playing a tough OOC schedule (FSU, Notre Dame) the last couple years. They always point to Texas and bama who never schedule tough OOC. I think the same way as @Contained Chaos , schedule at least one respectable opponent to give you a little more cred. We don't get into that 2007 NC without having taken Va Tech to the woodshed.
That date hasn't been set yet, has it? The best I recall it seems like the next "big OOC opponents" are scheduled in six years or so...Penn State and NC State?
It was set for I believe the '18 season but that was prior to all the conference shuffling that went on.
