Hello all! So, I've noticed the atmosphere of Tiger Staduim has been the topic of conversation. I wanted to share what I saw Saturday night and maybe get others to help explain what's going on with the most feared, electric, exciting venues to watch a college football game at night. Growing up during the dinardo, saban and miles yrs my pop got us tickets to just about every home game for free thanks to his profession in the oil field. Growing up in Houma,LA we love our tigers! I decided to bring my pops and introduce my 2 kids to the greatness of tiger Staduim again. First game I've been to in about 6 yrs. I love the addition in the south end zone, it's perfect! Now maybe it was the fact that we were playing souther miss, but the game day environment was very disappointing. I understand the want for piped in music because that's what recruits and players on the field enjoy, but it seems that it's not managed well. The band getting cut off by music happened a lot Saturday night. I miss the band being the main source of pumping up the crowd. When the band played Neck those were the days! A lot of the crowd left at halftime and it was tied ball game!! I really don't get that. I know I'm bring up topics that have been discussed to death. I've read a lot of message boards complaining about it, and didn't think anything of it until I witnessed it myself. I know winning will bring back the magic, but my god it's changed a lot in 6 yrs. GEAUX TIGERS!! P.s. I'm pulling for coach O to keep the job, but he has to win!
Welcome! I also am from Houma, now live in Tennessee, and yes the environment has changed. I have been attending games since the 70's and I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe it's a generational thing.
I think Miles contributed to the game day atmosphere. Maybe also bad parenting as the younger generation has short attention spans. The music is a bad choice by whoever is running the show, but I imagine a lot of money was spent and they don't want to admit it was wasted. There are probably academic studies supporting loud sound systems. I've also heard the band has been dwindling in numbers and quality. I'm pulling for Eaux as well, it would be a nice fit based on the first few weeks. I think he keeps us rolling - he inherited a very talented team that Miles mismanaged.
The music is probably to keep the band from playing songs that our immature student section will shout inappropriate chants to. Sad but look no further than the idiots in the stands for that one. The folks leaving early, well that is just as sad.
A few theories: - Taking your family to the game today costs $500 or more. Watching it on HDTV is free, and you can spend your day doing other things before and after the game - I think there are far more businessmen entertaining clients in the stands. These people do not make much noise, or really even pay attention. - Despite taking a step back, LSU is on a historic relative run of success. A team on the rise generates a lot more passion than a team that is considered a flop if they aren't in the Top 5. (The Tigers can be 'team on the rise' again starting this Saturday). - TS still rocks for the biggest of big games. Ole Miss a couple of years ago, Florida last year, any Bama game.
The millennial student section is a bunch of embarrassing pussies. They set the tone for the rest and bail out at halftime. Their embarrassing parents who are responsible for those bums leave right behind them. Game was 10-10 at half. I wish tickets could be revoked. At least stay til the game is decided.
