Well, I am sure you are right about this when compared to other modern stadiums, but do LSU fans really care about that? I mean, one of the problems with our country right now is overspending/overborrowing in an effort to keep up with the Jones'. We are the Jones', and who cares if you have to go take a piss while drunk in a crappy bathroom during a 3 hour football game? I have never even given that a second thought prior to this post. Didn't realize the BRs were all that crappy to be honest. You may be more privvy to this than I, but I hope you are wrong. Unless you are talking simply major renovations, and not replacement.
Well, parts of Tiger Stadium have already been replaced. The old steel bleachers in the south end zone were replaced by the south end zone structure. The old upper deck was replaced by a new upper deck. Replacing obsolete, cramped and eventually unsafe sections of the lower bowl doesn't keep it from being Tiger Stadium--It's the same field. At the very least the decrepit tenement dormitories under the stands will have to be demolished to let in some light and air in and make room for new ramps and facilities . . . again, more expensive and less satisfactory than simply replacing the lower bowl.
If they end up replacing the lower bowl, do you think they'll make it out of steel like the old Tulane stadium? that place was insanely loud at saints games when everyone was hollering and stomping. I wonder what the seismographs at the geology labs would read when LSU beats Bama and Saban at home?
I doubt it. They have to follow some architectural guidelines provided by the university plus, they'll want to make it look similar to the other parts of the stadium. So, i think concrete is the best bet. I'm a big fan of concrete.
Geaux with concrete, and keep the arches like the Roman Coliseum. I sit in those sideline seats. I don't complain much, because my seats are plenty good enough to make up for crappy ramps and small bathrooms. But, is it too much to ask for an ATM inside the stadium? Seriously, I needed one last year, and was quite lucky they let me leave the stadium to go to the one by the athletic building.
The Cotton Bowl wasn't replaced, was it? And I don't think we can began to compare a city/state building a new stadium to attract or keep a pro team as opposed to a university building a stadium to replace one like Tiger Stadium. I'd bet a bunch it won't happen unless the lower bowl is very unsafe and prohibitive to rebuild.
they just lost the bowl game, and that move was made to promote the cotton bowl as a potential BCS bowl, later on down the road
First the Cowboys moved and built a new stadium. Then the Cotton Bowl Game itself was moved to a new stadium.
