Now that baseball has a shiny new state of the art facility to play in, what about Tiger Stadium? As alarm sirens ponder in your minds as you think about that........... Tiger Stadium is not exactly fan friendly in the lower bowl. The concession stands, restrooms, and other amenities are second, even third-rate throughout much of the lower bowl of the stadium. Ever try to make a quick trip to the restroom? happen to sit in a different area one week and notice drastic changes in available concessions? Really it's all chaotic at best. We take a great deal of pride in Tiger Stadium, but lets face it there are a lot of very lackluster qualities to the ole stadium. What will it take for either 1) serious upgrades to amenities in Tiger Stadium or 2) a brand new Tiger Stadium to be built? I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it. What are some upgrades and changes you would like to see? Also, I'll ask this even though I knoe the answer is mostly going to be something like 'over my dead body'..... but, would you like to see a new Tiger Stadium built?
"Over my dead body" sounds about right. Upgrades are one thing I think just about everyone would be alright with. You don't tear down and rebuild one of the most famous football stadiums in college football that is dripping in tradition and steeped in intimidation. I mean...come on... Long got the state to build it under the guise of new dorms, who else has a story like that about their stadium?
Restrooms need to be upgraded for sure. How about some diaper changing accessibility in EITHER the men's or women's restrooms. Right now neither have it. The tunnels are just too small. Concession lines are impossible to get around even when they aren't that long. I Usually have to take the inner bowl and walk in front of people which sucks for them. I'm not opposed to a new stadium, as long as it keeps the same traditional look of Tiger Stadium, but more functional.
Rebuild and re-populate the dorms. That would almost be a new/same stadium. Whatever they do the dorms are dead space right, or are they used for storage?
Simply getting from point a to point b is a real challenge! Eight times in the fall, we get to walk like ducks amongst our fellow tiger fans.
I am strongly opposed to this idea. The last thing I was is a few hundred people actually living in the stadium again. People living there = an increased potential for fire and destruction of the stadium. The last thing we want is for someone cigarette butt in their tiger stadium apartment to catch the whole place on fire.
Sooner or later though, it will need to be replaced. The lower bowl of the stadium needs lots of work as it is. No idea how long it can be maintained, but it certainly will need some serious attention at some point. Can they replace it a section at a time in an off-season like they did with the upper decks? Doubtful.
If you want to compete you have to keep up with the times. Especially in college football where big money is becoming a big part of having success. Arguably one of the most historic ball parks in America will be blown to bits this year for the sake of progress.
Gotcha, but still there is dead, usable space. Never seen the dorms but what about a reconfiguration that would support the concessions, facilities and whomever? Opens up new space to fan facilities.
Definitely needs to be upgraded especially for how much ppl pay for tickets and donations they have to make to just get on the list
