Is that really something he needs to brag about? We all know how SEC officials are. Incompetent, corrupt, or both.
That whole "7 yards from either side of the ball" thing is going to be an class 5 trainwreck. You really think those dumbasses need something else to calculate? It's like the people who come up with these rule changes never watch refs in action.
The 7 yard on either side of the ball thing has been there confusing officials for years (one of the things to consider if it was legal or not was whether he lined up within 7 yards from center). For example, in Sept. 2009, the SEC coordinator of football officiating said of the blocking below the waist rule: "It's a complicated rule. It makes it hard to coach. It makes it hard to officiate. Imagine the official trying to keep all this stuff in his head when a play is going by in about two nanoseconds. Where was it? Was this a kick play? Was this guy lined up 7 yards outside or was he 6 yards outside? It's a troublesome thing." As for the 5 yards downfield rule, that has been there as well, allowing it for only defensive players at one point. And then there was a 10 yard downfield rule for everyone: In April 2011, the ACC's coordinator for football officiating discussed the rule changes for Fall 2011, and said of the blocking below the waist rule: "I see no difference ... as long as they are within 7 yards of the middle lineman [if on the line] or within the tackle box [if in the backfield ... Last year, everyone could block below the waist if it was at least 10 yards downfield. Now, this is eliminated, as it was difficult for officials to tell the difference between 9.5 yards or 10.5 yards."
C.O.R.R.U.P.T. (I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone in stating what I believe to be the truth...)
Fear we have entered into the wimp era of college football. Add that to the SEC ref incompetence factor, it could get interesting.
What do you entitle Alabama's whining? What do you call Alabama's refusal to demand the SEC offices be relocated in New Orleans to even things between to two senior SEC members? Especially considering how much more money Louisiana is worth annually than Alabama?
The NFL new rules and college football new rules. We are seeing the beginning of the end of what we know as football. Either we have to accept that collisions will happen, concussions will happen, and the players lives will suffer from it or the Suits will make it a 'thump' and your down sport. My sports opinion: Soccer is really kickass. We could win a World Cup if the athletes change sports.
So what about the 3 second thing? If there is less than 3 seconds left the QB will not be allowed to spike the ball? This seems to be the one that is flying under the radar and could have massive ramifications.
Yes. In fact they have re-written all off the pregame coaching motovational speaches to say that "we have to play hard for the full 59 minutes and 57 seconds"
Yeah, I really don't understand the point of that. Time left is time left. Eventually, we'll have to go to a basketball style game clock, where it shows tenths of a second (wait, do we already have that?). Then, we'll have 9 minute delays to determine whether or not the ball was snapped with 3.0s or 2.9s left. Was the ball moving, or did the center fart? The blade of grass moved on its own before the ball was snapped. Offense, get out here and run the last 2.9s off the clock. No, you can't spike it. You lost, but snap it anyway. What I want to know is, can we still spike it with zero seconds left on the clock??
