The Sugar Bowl committee cares! I think that the bowl that loses its conference tie-in because that conference champ is #1 gets to choose first for a replacement team.
I plead ignorance. So what you're saying is that if LSU is #2, then the SEC doesn't get to choose the replacement for LSU? If so, I did not know that... So, in that case, I guess someone DOES care! :thumb: I still don't.....:hihi:
Correct (other than automatic tie-ins at other bowls), whichever bowl loses it's automatic team because they're #1 get first dibs on the at large teams.
Well, the SEC's champion always gets a spot in the Sugar Bowl, unless that champion finishes in the top 2 teams in the BCS rankings. If that happens, then if the SEC champion is ranked #1, then the Sugar Bowl committee (not the SEC) picks first for a replacement team - they can pick from any eligible team not already spoke for. If the SEC champion is #2, then the Sugar Bowl picks second.
With all due respect to Kansas, no one gives a crap about them outside of Kansas and maybe the Big-12. They are moving up because of the big 0 in their record. Without it, they will drop to the back of the line and maybe beyond. Can't hold a #2 against them in any way. Just can't. The voters feel like they have to move these guys up, regardless of any other factors.
I am not naive at all. This is a BCS conference team. It is unavoidable what is happening. I don't see the point in arguing, however. KU has a tough game coming up this weekend, and if they win, a tough one after that. We'll see if they belong or not. BTW, we have two tough games as well. As tough? I don't know, and I don't care. Still plenty of football left, unlike the Big-10 which sits on their ass for Thanksgiving and beyond. Besides, if I am naive, maybe KU jumps us even with a loss! I kind of doubt it, don't you?
true but as we all know the media is fickle. they loved Vince Young for a while too. he was better than sliced bread that yr. And look at all the love they've given us lately, only because they picked us preseason. it's more like they hate to be wrong. Kansas is their cinderella. Cause they didnt pick them but they love them anyway. it will last even if they lose the media will love M ball. BUT if they slde back into medicroity next yr? it will be crickets chirping..... mangino who?
ala South Florida, Boston College, Rutgers, etc... Can't blame them. They're not after the truth, they're after your interest in buying a story. If the story turns out to be BS, you still bought it. So all they have to do is be able to say, "Hey - it was POSSIBLE!" This late in the season, Kansas is a safe bet for the media. Even if they drop the next two, they were still the only undefeated team in the Top 5 so noone could blame them for obsessing.
There's no question they'd jump us in the AP poll, if they win out, but who cares. I think it's possible in the SID poll as well, but the computers would still give us the edge given their early SOS and OU's fall from grace.
