Don't doubt yourself. Crowton WAS bad as billed.... look at the offensive results Maryland had in his 1st and ONLY season there.

There has never been a coordinator who had "100% control". It is the head coach's team and he will always get involved.

This may not be popular again, and I said it in another thread, but I honestly believe, that while Crowton called the plays, the offense was designed by Miles, and during the week, Crowton and Miles would come up with a gameplan, the play chart was approved by Miles with plays that he wanted, and Crowton was to call plays off of that particular play chart, signal sent into Miles and TC, Miles approved or vetoed. I think the same thing is true, ever since Jordan Jefferson came back. It's like we went straight back to that same offense that Miles supposedly got rid of Crowton for. It's baffling. It didn't work against Georgia, what in the name of everything holy made Miles think it would work against Alabama.

There has to be a pro-style offensive coordinator out there that can come in and do the job himself without Miles meddling. I have no problem with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust, and opening up with play action. But the option has to go. It may work against Ole Miss, and Vandy, and teams from other conferences who don't have strength at linebacker or the d line, but it doesn't work against the big boys, unless they make mistakes. We cannot depend on the other team making mistakes for us to win.

Stacey, I must commend you not only on the content of this post, but on your persistence to keep responding to other posts w/level headed comments to offset the understandably frustrated tenor of the board. Its at least helping me, if not others, to look at that inept offensive performance the other night in a more empathetic light.

It's not just the other night though. It's been like this for the past 3 seasons. Game after game after game after game. Excellent defense, and excellent special teams masks whats really happening on offense. Look, I want Miles to retire here, I think he is great for LSU. If our defense isn't scoring, or giving the offense a short field, and if the special teams isn't giving us a short field on returns, or Wing booting long punts and then the defense forcing teams 3 and out, we would probably average right around 18 points a game, and the only reason for that much is the weak defenses we play every season.

Miles is a great man, a great recruiter, a great representative of LSU, but just look at the offense and tell me it's gotten better over the last 3 years. I'm not talking about how many points are scored because that number is skewed, look at total yards, look at production of Jordan Jefferson. It's unreal. Has anyone ever known of a quarterback that was better his freshman year than his senior year? He progressively got worse, and alot of it has to do with Jordan sucking, but alot of it has to do with a bland and predictable offense. Jarrett Lee threw more touchdowns in the first 9 games of the season than Jordan Jefferson has thrown in the past 2 combined.

I'm glad we can recruit athletes like Jerrard Randle, but frankly I really hope he sucks at quarterback, like really really really sucks, and can't figure out anything because it scares me to death to think of LSU with a mobile quarterback. We will see the same nonsense we have been seeing, unless this kid is Cam Newton.

yeah, i agree with pretty much everything you say here. CLMs offense is so frustrating and really keeps us from being dominant. i understand your sentiment about dual QB, but don't really hope Randle sucks, lol.
