Looks like he thought WVU was defending the PAT and he ran to get on the right side of the line of scrimmage. Then he realized right was wrong. Maybe he heard banjos.
My guess is that he thought he was the 12th man on the field, so he was running off the field as quick as he could so his team didn't get a penalty... and he figured his best bet was to run directly for the sideline behind the endzone, which was his fastest route off the field. As for why he stopped... the same time he stopped... the guys on the WVU OL all stood back up at the same time... so it could have been that they all heard that the sideline ref blew a whistle indicating that the WVU coaches had called a time-out.
