John Clayton said Pacman to Dallas for a 5th round pick most likely to happen. I would give up a 5th round for Pacman would definitely help our defensive backfield.

Colston gets knee scoped, cleaned but will be ready to go soon

Saints receiver Marques Colston expects to be back fully healthy this offseason.

Like Deuce McAllister, like Mike McKenzie, like Jonathan Vilma, Colston is coming off of knee surgery.

But don’t worry, he said. It’s nothing big.

“Had a scope to clean a lot of things out of there,” Colston said. “I had a lot of irritation in there. Now’s the time to clean up and get healthy.”

He expects to be back running and cutting and being Marques Colston in two to three weeks.

“I’m still limited as far as conditioning goes,” he said. “I’m getting my conditioning on the bike. If I needed to, I probably could go. But it’s just not smart at this point. Just (want to) get as healthy as possible.”

Colston was banged up for most of the season. He didn't miss any games, but had a knee tweak before the year, a chest contusion and a hand injury. With the season nearly three months gone, those injuries are healed, he said.

Colston become a restricted free agent after this season, meaning the Saints would have to match any offer from another team to keep the young receiver around.

But don’t ask him about it. He doesn’t know.

“It’s not even really something I’ve thought about,” Colston said.

Asked if his agent has been in contact with the Saints to try to get a contract done prior to the season, Colston wasn’t sure.

“To be honest, I don’t really know,” he said. “I honestly have not been in contact with that.”

I-59 split
Deuce McAllister injured his knee in a Monday night game against Tennessee. Three days later, he was in Birmingham, Ala., for surgery to repair the ACL tear.

He has been splitting time since.

And now that offseason training has started, he’ll be spending more time in New Orleans at the Saints facility. He’ll still go back to Birmingham, though, where the camaraderie is key to the rehab.

“One thing you have in Birmingham is you’re with guys that have ACL’s or something similar,” said McAllister, who is going through rehab for the second time in three seasons. “You see a lot of guys coming in and they’re in different stages.”

Humbled Reggie?
Saints running back Reggie Bush came out of college as a bonified stud. His first season as a pro certainly backed that up. He finished with 1,523 all-purpose yards and helped lead the Saints to the NFC Championship game.

But his sophomore season was less than spectacular.

Veteran David Patten said the youngster still has a long way to go.

“The expectations for him were so high, people are disappointed,” Patten said. “But at the same time, he’s still a baby, still a puppy. He’s still learning the game. Whenever he hits his stride, the sky is really the limit.”

He added, “Reality is just setting in. he knows within himself, ‘There’s a lot expected of me.’ He knows he’s going to have to work to get back that level. All the expectations are set because of what he did in college.”

He is a huge talent but he is also a huge pain in the ass! He can't stay out of trouble and thus won't make it back onto the field

IMO i think he realizes this is his last chance and has a short leash. A late round pick 5th or later isn't too much too gamble compared to the reward. Just like a late round pick for Vilma who is just coming off a major knee surgery.

10. New Orleans Saints - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
There is a certain shock level to seeing Glenn Dorsey at the #10 spot, and in actuality he probably won't fall this far. But look at the teams in the spots above New Orleans (at least past Oakland), and it's difficult to project Dorsey going to any of them.

If the Saints really can land Dorsey, it would be a huge steal. New Orleans filled its corner need via free agency with former Patriot CB Randall Gay, and a top caliber player like Dorsey would be a huge boon for the team's defensive line.

New Orleans Saints: Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Even in the wake of signing Randall Gay, cornerback is still a huge need for the Saints. But because they have a lot of money tied into Gay, Mike McKenzie and Jason David, they may wait on drafting a corner until the second or third round, especially considering how deep this cornerbacking class is.

With that in mind, the Saints will look at Keith Rivers, the best player available at this juncture. Rivers will be an instant upgrade over Scott Shanle, one of the two mediocre outside linebackers New Orleans has on its roster.

One other option - if either Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis falls out of the top five, the Saints could trade up to No. 8 and grab one of the two defensive tackles.

Here is a good positional breakdown with the new additions to the team leading into offseason workouts.

I had no idea Skyler Green is now a Saint.

BTW Booger is now with the Steelers.

Overall not a great offseason so far. We have 2 questionable defensive players that MAY help us.

I hope we fare better in the draft.

I think it's been a pretty darn good offseason, if for no other reason, the fact that we've retained all of our key free agents. The core is still intact, and we are allowing ourselves to build.

Vilma's going to be a HUGE upgrade at linebacker if he can stay healthy. Gay won't take the starting job away I dont' think, but he is great depth at least.

We've done nothing but upgraded (except maybe center). We haven't gotten a great DB yet, but we still have some time. If our first round pick is spent on a pass rusher or a DB, our secondary will be greatly improved next year. And, besides, we don't have to have the Bears defense, we just have to have a defense good enough to get off the field on occasion and give the ball back to our offense.

FYI-
Keith Rivers ran a 4.51 at USC's Pro Day today.

And since Sed Ellis could be around in the #9 range, he ran a 5.0 40.
