Numerous reports are rolling out that the Hornets will change their name to the Pelicans.

    What do you think?

The other two were the "Krewe" and the "Brass".

The alternates are okay, except the rest of the country may not understand the true meaning of "Krewe" and may think it is thuggish. The Pelicans is a good name, but I always thought if New Orleans got another NBA team they should name it "The Mormons" so they could trade names with Utah.

Pelicans is appropriate, but it sucks phonetically. "New Orleans Pelicans" just doesn't flow as smoothly as "New Orleans Brass". However, people would say that it's too close to jazz, in sound & in reference.

Horrible. It's fitting for the area, but surely they could've brainstormed and come up with something with a better ring to it, but wtf do I know.

They could call 'em the Green Wave, but then they'd be known as a bunch of losers.

I don't hate Pelicans but would probably rather Krewe. Brass isn't bad but agree it's too close to Jazz.

My favorite suggestion (that may not have been seriously considered) was Big Chief. The song could be played during player introductions and it would make a cool mascot, maybe even have it be one of the old school black guys like in Treme.

That's the good thing about it; is has an intimidating sound, but it has a definite regional and cultural tie to it. It wouldn't take long to people to come up to speed. Hell, I have to wonder, even after 45+ years, if the rest of the country knows the significance of the New Orleans Saints name? Krewe is much easier to explain.
