Overall, the Hornets have played the best, most consistent basketball in the NBA so far. Long way to go, but the blueprint of this team(solid defense, low post presence w/ DW and Mek, shooters that can make you pay from outside, i.e. Peja, Bellinelli, a deeper bench with Thornton, Smith, Green and Bayless, and, most importantly, possibly the best young PG in the game and a terrific leader for this team. If they play like they have consistently moving forward, they'll probably be a top 3 seed in the Conference, and a tough out in the playoffs. It looks like the Hornets have a lot of pieces in place to be a contender for a while. Here's hoping for another world championship for the city of New Orleans. GEAUX HORNETS!!
Thornton hasn't played in about 5 games. And ESPN says a trade is in the works to send Peja and Bayless to the Raptors for Jarrett Jack and two nobodies. I do not like the sound of that trade. We'll give up 2 subs for 1 and two guys who are no better than what we have now. All this trade does is clear Peja's cap space, but it could spoil what is looking like some very good team chemistry.
if that trade happens, I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't a set up trade or a cap clearing trade to go get a big name. Remember we have this yr and next to make CP3 happy. So, i actually expect alot of movement for this team. As far as peja he was inactive when MT was healthy and will be inactive once he comes back. The bayless part is what shocks me. Does ESPN mention who those other two players might be.
just seen the trade and it makes perfect sense. Jack will bring us a 2nd team leader and plays just like CP3. Jack can also play along side Paul which is something bayless couldn't. He also shoots the 3 very well. David Anderson (expiring contract) gives another big body, along the same type of player as J. Smith. M. Banks (expiring contract) gives us an 3rd string pg w/ great handles and good d, he fits in well w/ CMW. They only down side i see is the fact we gave a 1st round pick for bayless and he only made it through 10 games. Also, look for banks and anderson to possibly be sent away at the deadline for someone that can give us a good playoff push. But, if they aren't it wont matter we gained 11 mil during the season on this trade, plus banks and anderson's contracts after the season. Plus, a 2 million $ trade exception that we can use. In all this trade should prove to be a win for us.
Jack is also one of CP3's best friends. Both played against each other in the ACC and both were drafted in 2005. He also has a limited history with the current Hornets staff from their days with the Trailblazers. 1st round picks of NBA playoff teams are virtually worthless. They don't hold nearly the value that NFL 1st round picks hold. The Hornets will now have a metric ****load of cap space next season. That the team is playing so well this year right now is just a bonus. On top of upgrading the PG spot, the Hornets traded away two expiring contracts for one, giving the Hornets some material to work with in making another trade. Demps is looking like a genius thus far...
true w/ the draft pick and the way we are playing it will probably be in the latter part of the draft. And yes Demps is looking good right now and so is CMW.
Hornets are now 1-4 since the trade. Jarrett Jack hasn't produced "jack" and the other two guys we acquired in the trade haven't even seen the floor yet. Green and Bayless were developing into a top-flight backup backcourt and Peja was hitting stride as off-the-bench instant offense. After the best start in franchise history, this team now looks lost, just like that.
