NCAA moves kickoffs from 30-yard line to 35 - ESPN players will also be prohibited from leaping over blockers when trying to block punts.
Moving the kickoff spot was asinine in the NFL, and it will be asinine in college football, too. The competition committee will likely put NFL kickoffs back at the 30 anyway after the thrilling exchange of touchbacks we got all season up through the SB.
This is all a reaction to the brave new world of Nanny Goodell's NFL. Can't wait until the NCAA rules committee introduces the "defenseless receiver" rule and giving QBs no-contact jerseys.
Moving the kickoff was a compromise, I think they wanted to get rid of kickoff all together. Its the most dangerous play in a football game.
Exactly the point. If the NFL and NCAA are intent on crippling an element of the game to the point of irrelevance in the name of safety, then why not remove kickoffs altogether and have drives start automatically at the 20?
No more tackling we will now do 2 hand touch. Any offensive player hit to hard will be given 7 points for not taking a hit. The defense must not play to win but must now play to be kind and never try to force any fumbles, sacks are do anything that could hurt someone. During kickoff's if the return man feels you may hit him to hard you must lay on the ground till he gets past you. Never thought I would see the day NCAA & NFL turned into back yard football with the 7 & 8 year old kids playing.
If I am remembering correctly, it used to be the 35, then they moved it to the 30 to ENCOURAGE returns. This was done to burn time from the clock and speed up the game.
