Based on the Miles' nearly incoherent interview, even for him, is there any chance that Harris is in grave academic trouble and that is the unspoken improvement Miles was getting at. I cannot believe Miles sputtered as he did, and I have been watching a long time. In the Pantheon of terrible public statements, tonight's mindless mumbling was way up there.
Unless we hear it from a credible source, we'll never know. I'm more interested in seeing who starts Saturday night.
It never occurred to me he may have off the field issues, such as the classroom. I just thought they saw something in practice that worried them, although during the game he seems to play lights out. This is why I think most of us can't understand why he is not the guy. This guy is a football player period. Reminds me of TM7 he just gets it done. That run for a touchdown he was stopped dead in his tracks and managed to fight his way in. Everybody in the stadium knows he is only 160 pounds but him. I like the way he plays.
Loyal to a fault is the phrase that comes to mind. (See Jordan Jefferson) Obviously, I don't have first hand knowledge, but from everthing I've read, the reason Harris doesn't start is because he has a limited recollection of the playbook and he's not as sharp in practice as he is when he's playing in the game. I made this point earlier, but will do so again. Some players just don't light it up unless there's something at stake. Maybe he isn't a good practice player, but he definately steps it up when it counts. He's a gamer. The important thing is that he's gotten better in each opportunity that he's had. Next week will be his first SEC road game, if he starts. That will obviously be a huge challenge for him. Hopefully, the moment won't be too big for him.
My son said he read somewhere that he was a top student in high school. If this kid plays like that in practice then I'm at a total lost as to why we struggled the first four games. He should have been getting quality reps. I agree Brett, his loyalty gets in his way!
And that's saying something when Miles one ups himself when it comes to incoherent rambles. I think he's a really great guy, but he should never travel without an interpreter.
