Hello Tiger fans! I just discovered this site and thought I'd go ahead and sign up. I've been a Tiger fan for some time. My dad, Jim Roshto, played for the Tigers back in the days of coach Gus Tinsley. My mother has collected all sorts of articles, programs, and other memorabila during his time at LSU. I've been trying to find sites on the internet that has information about the Tigers from 1949 to 1950 but I'm not having much luck. If anyone knows of any web sites that I can go to I'd appreciate it. My home email address is [email protected] and my work email address is [email protected] I was able to talk to coach Tinsley a few years back when he came to my dad's funeral. That was a special time for me. Several other guys that played with him showed up too and I was able to talk to them about their football days in Tiger Stadium. Anyway let's hope that they do better against Oklahoma in this Sugar Bowl than they did back in 1950, Oklahoma 35 LSU 0. Ouch! Bye for now.:helmet:
You might want to post this on the main Tigers Den section of tigerforums. A lot more people will see it and I'm sure somebody has links to that info.
I don't know about resources on the internet, but Peter Finney's book "The Fighting Tigers" (it's up to a third edition, now) is an excellent history of the program from 1893-1993. I recently e-mailed Mr. Finney, inquiring if he's going to update the book to the present day, but I've received no reply as of yet.
Thanks Brett and G_man, My brother and I already have a copy of Mr. Finney's book which is a great read and source of Tiger history. I did however find several items on Ebay that I am looking to purchase, original programs of the 1951 game against Ga. Tech on 10-13-1951, the 1952 Alabama game on 9-27-1952, the 1953 game against Alabama on 9-26-15-1953, an original 1952 Bowman card of Zollie Toth, and an original 1949 Gumbo yearbook that has Y.A. Tittle and Joanne Woodward in it. All these items were when my dad played football at LSU. These are the kind of items I'm always looking for. A good friend of my dad who played ball with him during his time, Mr. Warren Virgets, obtained and made me a copy of several game films from '49 thru '52 and presented it to me a few years back. This piece is extra special to me where it shows how football was played back then. Amazingly it's a good quality reproduction. I'm not sure who he talked to to make this for him, but apparently he's got connections! Anyway, thanks for getting back with me I'll stay in touch!
