Called into action last night was Ronald Martin, a kid LSU was going to Red-Shirt. Some might remember this was done before with Travis Daniels(The 2001 season), he was forced into the game when Blue Gay went down and LSU was without any more DB's. This was in the SECCG. Last night #26 finished with 3 tackles (2 Solo's) and 1 pass broken up. Having seen him play in high school, this player has the talent to help this team. With his play last night, that makes 82 players that have played in games this year. Ronald is set to join the Basketball team once the Football season is finished. More info on #26... Congrats to Ronald....:tigereye:
It seems LSU has moved beyond the point of needing to "save" a player's year. LSU is so loaded and deep and with so many players on the horizon, Les obviously feels comfortable burning redshirts. The talent level is so deep that we'll probably lose our share of juniors to the NFL over the next few years. Not to mention it keeps the troops happy by getting on the field and it lets Miles boast to recruits about how many freshmen see the field at LSU.
He may be called into action again next week, we'll know more with Loston and Reid. Not the end of the world for this kid. There is always a chance one can have the RS pulled at any time. Ronald will make the best of it. I'm sure Coach Cooper might have given him the option. Kids want to play and help the team, you did see where Ole Miss tried to take a shot with him, thats where he got the Pass Broken up. Hes no longer a True Freshman at LSU, he a game player. He got his RS pulled a few games earlier than Travis Daniels, that was a late one. I'll trust Cooper and Chief on this call. Ark. will have the DB's running all night, once thought to be the deepest position, injuries have come into play. For a team to have this much depth, its unreal. :tigereye:
I think one thing fans fail to understand is how much the true freshmen want to play on a championship team. I wouldn't want to RS, either; I'd want to have been on the field of play.
True, many Pro teams are looking at LSU's DB, Mo won't be here for his Sr. year. Reid was another that has a shot at leaving early. WE have done a good job at reloading and adding depth.
THIS. Does anyone know if a redshirted freshman is an official member of the team. I would much rather say that I was a member of the 2011 team, than I practiced with them.
