I suspect they thought they would reduce injuries by so many kickoff going out of the endzone. But it took LSU less than one quarter to start kicking it high and getting the coverage down quickly. Not only will there be a lot of returns but returners will get clobbered early.
We took the same approach and the average starting position was inside the 25, roughly the 22. I plan to compare the numbers at some point later on in the season. Right now I suspect they'll reflect teams starting deeper in negative territory than last year.
You heard it here first: Airbags, folks! Airbags! Frontal, frontal-offset--hell, let's make it 360 degree protection for (for starters) the receiving player on kickoffs. He'll have Velocity-Analyzing Incoming Threat Detection, coupled with Rapid Deceleration Identification in order to deploy the airbag system. Actual photo of Penn State receiver on "White Out" day: (helmet was off for photo shoot only) Kids, don't try this at home. Adult supervision required. Objects in mirrored visors are closer than they appear.
To the 20, all the other rules stay the same,.. according to a tv announcer I heard talking about it.
Was it put into play this year for player safety or did some West Virginia donor successfully lobby the NCAA after watching Mo last season?
